I've been watching videos on youtube of people making smoothies with the magic bullet. It seems really quick and convenient. Seems pretty small, so it's easy for traveling, and since you just put the stuff in the cup you can drink it straight after you are done. Does anyone own one? What do you think?
I looked on wikipedia and it said stuff about it wearing and tearing easily? I'm not gonna spend $60 on it if it's just gonna do that.

I don't know much about it, I really was interested in it, Though. I make a lot of smoothies and since i'm the only one that drinks them theres no purpose in using our big, Horribly incapible of making anything creamy, one. I'd love to get some information on it as well.

i love mine. i make a lot of smoothies, and it's great for that. fast, easy cleanup, you can drink straight from the cups provided..
it's not good however for everything else it says it does. chopping veggies, things like that it does NOT do well, but if you're just looking for a great smoothie/shake maker, i'd recommend it. my old blenders took ages to blend frozen fruit and ice, and never actually broke them down enough.

I agree with the above post. I'm on my second one. I really can't do without one. It does not chop well at all...you end up with mush or really big chunkiness. But it blends really well and I do a lot of that, so I love mine.

I considered getting one but decided to get a food processor instead. I got a 7 cup kitchen aid and love it to death. I make smoothies for breakfast nearly everday and its so simple to do, I don't mind having to pour into a seperate cup. Plus the food processor does lots more than the magic bullet would.

I don't either. The chopping blade works just fine for me. I'd really like the dough hook for it though.

I do. I mostly use it for smoothies - it's awesome!

I'd thought about it but after hearing from a co-worker decided I would probably quickly outgrow it. I ended up buying a food processor. And a good food processor is really not that much more than the Magic Bullet. Or you can buy an inexpensive food processor and blender for the same or less. Obviously then you're talking more cabinet/counter space and more difficult cleanup.
Anyway... There's an old thread on it here you might want to read through...

We have one here and I think it's great. I use it the same as I would use a blender, only with waaay less mess. I can't remember the last time I used my blender. It was really convenient when my bf was having smoothies every morning (he was having reflux in a bad way and for some reason smoothies really helped). He needed to travel and couldn't take a blender with him but easily took the magic bullet.
I don't use it to make hummus, guac, etc like it says you can. These things are too thick and it doesn't work well.
I also use it to whip up egg replacer with water for a certain cookie recipe I have and to grind flax seeds. It's great to be able to use such a small container instead of getting out the blender. Clean up is a snap. It actually encourages me to make smoothies because when I just had the blender I would avoid them because I hated cleaning up.
So yeah, I use mine all the time and if it broke I would get another one. (Actually I *do* have another one that my mom bought me before we had this one but it's still at her place). We've had it for over a year and it still works, though I can tell there is definitely some wear and tear going on there.
If it fits into your budget, I definitely recommend it. I wouldn't recommend it in lieu of a food processor though :)

Thanks guys. I might pick one up tomorrow. I'm pretty much only going to be using it for green smoothies/other smoothies though.

I found a new use for mine tonight.
I used one of the cups with the solid lid to mix a Grey Goose Martini, then I switched to the perforated lid (steamer lid) to strain and pour. (I couldn't find my martini shaker).
I also find I use the containers with the steamer lid to steam veggies at least 3 times a week. It works so well for frozen broccoli.

Ok I bought it (20% of I saved 12 bucks yeah!) and I am going to open it now and try it out. Actually, I really don't have any food to try it out with yet but we'll see.
Edit: Oh God I love it! I just made a smoothie:
2 bananas
tsp of spirulina powder
tablespoon of hemp/maca/E3 Live powder
and water
and it tastes good and took like 1 minute. Plus I cleaned the blade thing in like 30 seconds. Haha AWESOME! It's small so I can bring it to work. I work in the kitchen and sometimes I'm there 12 hours so I can make a quick smoothies and drink them throughout the day.

Lol, that's what my co-workers thought when I came in bragging about my awesome xmas gift.
I loved my bullet. It was good for blending small amounts with little mess. I also have a food processor, though. Sadly, after 3 years of constant use, I think the motor is going. I am devastated.

That's what I thought at first with my first one...turned out NOT to be the motor, but the blade part...it was wall gunked up and wouldn't turn. So the hubby messed with it and that helped a bit. I found out you can get replacement parts on the magic bullet website. Of course, AFTER THAT, the motor went....just something to think about. :)

Thats a Hoot and Half Hehe:up:...One of my close friends Corey bought an off brand one at the Grocery Store Aldi for 29.00...They call it the Extreme Blending Machine or something like that and he likes it says it works just the same as the bullet.

Mine kicked the bucket. I used it for several different things like:
Chopping almonds. I don't like munching, let alone trying to capture whole almonds in my salads. I would make an almond powder out of a handful of them and coat my salad greens with them. Delicious!
Making tahini. I love hummus and make it constantly, and tahini pre-made is prohibitively expensive. Toast some sesame seeds and let them cool, add a little olive oil and you've got great tahini.
Mincing garlic (hate sticky garlic on my knife and bamboo board), shredding cheese, and any and all other small chopping jobs. Smoothies, of course, as well.
The main thing about the "MB" is it's small size, which means easy to clean. I'd never use my big food processor to mince some garlic, or chop up some almonds. The same goes for my blender when it comes to smoothies.
Unfortunately I received mine from my mom because she didn't like it. She didn't like it because she didn't screw the cap on tightly enough (though she says otherwise) and some milky smoothie liquid got into the motor. The other day the plastic teeth on the motor shattered while blending something. Still, the fact that liquid went through the motor and it went on for probably another year is somewhat impressive. Sadly, I hadn't used it much and had just begun to really like it in the 3-4 weeks previous to it's demise!

Funny. I was just thinking about this last night as I was toasting almonds for my salad. I was wondering if an almond powder would be yummy, like the gomasio my bf adores. I guess you just answered my question :p
PS: And welcome to the boards :)

Bof, I have a sneaking suspicion that you are probably one of the coolest old timers a person could ever hope to meet.
Missj5, it's not dirty ... it's good advertising!
Fyvel, thanks for the welcome :D
