I want to buy some chocolate to have here. Does anyone have a favorite place to buy some decent ones? TIA
P.S. I miss truffles.

Truffles are easy to make. I haven't tried veganizing my recipe yet but I did a quick search and this recipe looks really good: http://foodisyummy42.blogspot.com/2006/01/jens-famous-vegan-truffles.html

My friend introduced me to this ( http://www.vosgeschocolate.com/) chocolate. They only have a few vegan chocolates right now but are always adding new things. These are their vegan items:
Do you have any vegan products?
Our dark chocolate bars and chips are vegan and gluten free: Black Pearl, Red Fire, Creole, Oaxaca, Calindia and Black Cat.
Seriously I have never, ever had chocolate like this. It's the kind of chocolate that you take small bites of, light candles, and soak in a steamy bath... or maybe that's just me :)

The dark chocolate coconut bars from vegan essentials are AMAZING. The little peanut butter cups there are great too! I wish I knew the names for these, but yummmmmm...

Wow... they make some beautiful chocolates. However, the second one I clicked on turned me off. Chocolate with bacon. Now I just keep seeing in my mind my vegan chocolate being produced on the same equipment as the bacon chocolate.
Maybe I'll stick with my good ol' Green & Black's. <- btw, that would be my recommendation.
One of my previous old favorites was Godiva chocolates. Do they make any vegan ones? I checked the website and they don't provide any info that I can see. Also, I used to hear a rumor way back in the day that truffles contained snail slime or something. Any truth?

If you can get hold of them where you are in the UK we have a company called Booja Booja who sell the most amazing truffles. If they wern't so expensive I'd live off them. I had a job interview there once and they gave a me a free box.

I was just going to suggest booja booja. I've only had the champagne ones, they were pretty yummy :lick: I bet I would like a different flavour even better, I don't really like champagne.

I got a box of champagne Booja Booja and a box of walnut Booja Booja for Christmas. Needless to say they didn't last very long at all :)

Do they do walnut ones? They sound good. I love the hazelnut rocher and the espresso. The Champane and the banana ones are horrible. Has anyone tried their stuff in a tub? It's not very ice cream like but i have to say when a little melted it's amazing! Especially the maple walnut one.
Though as a company I don't really like them, all their staff had a huge lacking in personality and were pretty rude. Though i'm probably just bitter hehe.

Yep, they are very nutty and rich. I didn't know they did ice cream, although I can imagine it is delicious. I think Green and Blacks chocolate is also great, particularly the Maya Gold Chocolate Orange and the one with cherries in. Their ice cream is apparently not vegan though.

I'll have to go looking for the walnut truffles then. I love green and blacks, a little dark for every day though. Booja Booja's ice cream isn't very ice cream like, like sweidish glace is, but it's really rich and sugar free. It's very expensive though over £5 a tub! and they don't sell it in many places.
Another good place for vegan chocolate is hotel chocolat, their logs are amazing! So rich and smooth they also mark most vegan things as such. But again it's pretty pricey.

Most semi-sweet chocolate chips are vegan. There are a few commercial brands here in Canada that are vegan, and several varieties in the bulk bins at the health food stores.
I make the easiest, most awesome recipe for truffles! Just chocolate chips, margarine, vanilla and soymilk. The recipe is from the cookbook "La Dolce Vegan". I made these so much over christmas holidays that I'm almost sick of them! Almost ;)
If you like milk chocolate, Terra Nostra makes an excellent rice milk chocolate bar. It's creamy and light like real milk chocolate, but so much better! I highly recommend it! You can order them from VeganEssentials, but I've found them at local health food stores as well.
Oh and Tropical Source makes an awesome dark chocolate bar. They're quite sweet, so it's not like eating semi-sweet dark chocolate. They have tons of varieties too, like almond, rice crisp, plain, raspberry and mint! I've found them locally as well, but you can also order them from VeganEssentials. Yay for VeganEssentials!!! :D

I'm in Canada too, I was just curious which brands you have found? I was having trouble last time I went shopping for semi-sweet chips. Thanks!

They are pricey lol. My friend got a big box for valentine's day (their first set of all organic ones) and some of the bars. OMG.... they were just beautiful. Some had Himalayan pink salt dusted on top. The box they come in is lovely too. I like that they have a "green mission" too.
I just thought I'd tell ya, that when I first went vegan I thought all chocolate was out. All of it. I only had carob for almost an entire year before I figured that one out. lol

I have no idea baout Godiva, but I heard that rumor too. I don't think it's valid but you never know...
Um... bacon in chocolate? Nasty- lol. I hadn't seen that. They do have some beautiful chocolates though. I actually just found some vegan chocolate in Target last week that was delicious and it was sitting right next to these Green & Black's everyone talks about here. I'll have to try some :)
delicious

My favorite chocolate bars in order of preference are:
Equal Exchange (dark, but not the darkest)
Newman's Sweet Dark
Green and Black's Mint chocolate bar
None of them are very expensive, and they go on sale a lot.

President's Choice semi-sweet chocolate chips are vegan (the ingredients are chocolate liquor, sugar, soy lecithin, vanillin). Tropical Source also makes vegan chocolate chips, but they're more expensive and hard to find. In the health food stores I shop at, whenever a bulk bin is labeled "pure chocolate chips", the ingredients have always been vegan. That's what I usually buy, since bulk food is so much cheaper.

Hipo hyfryd (http://www.hipohyfryd.co.uk/) chocolates the the NICEST chocolates I think I've ever tasted, including non-vegan varietys. They are worth trying, that's for sure.

Absolutely, I'll give you the recipe in a few days (I'm moving tomorrow and my cookbooks are all packed). But I highly recommend La Dolce Vegan, it's one of my favourite vegan cookbooks. So if you can't wait until next week... ;)

Thanks, I'll keep a look out for those ones. The store I normally go to isn't very well-stocked and only has one brand. But if I'm planning on doing some baking a trip to Super Store might be in order to stock up on some PC ones.

A lot of bittersweet and semisweet chocolate chips are vegan. Some contain milk. Just read the ingredients.

ok, I bought 2 kinds of the green and blacks today! They just happened to be at the checkout counter when I paid. VERY TASTY! I have only tasted the orange one (maya gold). So dark and nicely spiced!
