Deodorant

I cannot find a vegan deodorant yet that actually keeps working if you actually get warm and begin to sweat.

First, was the mineral salt stone = Works, but not if you actually begin to mildly sweat a little.

Next, I tried Jason's Apricot deo = Works, but not if you actually begin to sweat a little (noticing a trend?)

THEN... I tried Kiss My Face unscented deo w/ enzymes... and OMG!!! It's not an issue of it stopping working... It never started to begin with! I started smelling funky 15 minutes into my shift (about a half hour after my shower and applying the deo) and NOW I'M RIPE!!! People here are beginning to comment on my yuck-smell just by walking into the same room I'm in!!!

I actually smell WORSE that I would if I'd forgotten to put any on!!!

Okay...my issue...
I ONLY want to avoid animal testing and animal ingredients... I don't care about aluminum, parabens, or whatever else is being left out of vegan deodorants because it's 'not natural.' I want SOMETHING with some sort of antiperspirant quality, so the deodorant part will at least have a fighting chance!

Hm. I liked the Tom's of Maine, but I've had success with the deodorant stone too, so I'm not sure...

I don't know that there are any cruelty free anti-perspirants. There are some that have vegan ingredients, but I don't recall what they are, off the top of my head. The aluminum's been an issue for me for awhile, so that knocked out most every brand. I think that maybe our bodies were made to sweat for a reason, but then I suppose that's for another thread. :)

I can understand your frustration as I've been through the same issue. I take my bike to work and previously always had to apply deodorant at least 3-4 times during the day to keep the smell away. I've been testing my way through lots of deodorants and have now narrowed it down to two types that actually work really well for me.

Baking soda is incredibly efficient and completely takes the smell away for me. On top of that it's incredibly cheap! If you wanna go for a better-smelling deodorant, I'm currently using powder deodorant from Lush which smells amazing. You can order it online if you're not around any of their shops.

Both these are working wonders for me and I only apply them once a day. I haven't checked but I'm pretty sure the Lush deodorant is also vegan.

Is Mitchum vegan? Or at least cruelty-free/no animal testing? I've tried Kiss My Face and Toms of Main. They're both worthless. Actually, my fiance says I smell like spaghetti when I use Tom's - Apricot.
I have several deodorants in my cabinet that I'm finishing off before I purchase more. Once they're finished I will be on the hunt for a worthy vegan alternative too.

I finally found a good deodorant (well, better than most like the avalon roll-ons or jason). It's called Green Beaver, a Canadian brand (so I'm not sure if you can get it outside Canada). It's even unscented, and scent is my major beef with other deodorants. I think the major "active ingredient" in scented deodorants is the scent itself. I could just use perfume if I wanted that. But I LOVE the Green Beaver brand, and highly recommend it.

Mind you, it's the middle of winter up here, and I haven't tried it out in the summer yet. But so far it works better than the Avalon Organics roll-on that I used for the first half of winter.

My understanding is that Mitchum is made by Revlon and that they don't animal test. You could check with them directly to be sure.

I'm yet to find something that works for me. I've been putting scented baby powder under my pits. That is working so far. I also put on perfume whenever I go out just incase.

Heh, so I was just going sans deoderant for the past few months... finally I decided to buy some cus.. I donno, I bet there were times my friends wished I had it? (If its bad of course I can smell it myself and just wash my underarms, but I'm assuming if its light I wont notice it as it's my own odor?)

i got Jason's tea tree oil one with antibacterial stuff cus I figured that'd work best to be odor eliminating. So far its been great: hasn't caused me to get sweaty/wet (i noticed that in some others, like you mentioned--I think it has to do with clogging pores? maybe? yes? no?) and I stay smelling clean, but not reeking of perfume.

Pah. I sweat really easily and of course once I do the smell comes along too. Unfortunately the only deodorant that has worked for me (i.e., kept the smell away) is Secret.

I'm currently using Nature's Gate deodorant, but like every other deodorant I've tried, I start smelling after a while. Baking soda is a miracle though - absolutely no smell. I pat it on after applying deodorant.

I sell things on a handmade site called etsy and there is a seller who has a bath and body shop where everything is vegan!! I love her black raspberry vanilla soap and i just recently made the switch to her vegan deoderant. I got mine in apricot vanilla but there is tons of smells. All the natural brand deodorants I tried absolutely did NOT work.

After going back and forth, I discovered that the deodorant stone actually works BETTER than the vegan stick deodorants I've tried thus far.

I'll try the baking soda thing. I've GOT to have a solution before the weather warms back up.

I've always had a problem with red bumps, pimples, ingrown hairs, and what I call 'sweat bubbles" <-- like a non-irritated bubble of sweat that doesn't break through to the surface. I know it's gross to talk about, but it's always made me worry about people being able to see my pits.

BUT, ever since I switched to these natural/vegan deodorants, those problems have magically gone away, and that skin is clear, clean, and smooth. I can also shave them every day, whereas before daily shaving would result in more red bumps.

That's good to know - I have those problems too. I still have quite a bit of non-vegan deodorant left but eventually I will be making the switch and this thread has been very helpful.

I've used their Aromarant, and it realllly doesn't work at all.


The rocks don't work for me either so I'm back to Mitchum now.

I'm having quite a good experience with Tom's of Maine so far. I thought I wouldn't like it since it's not an antiperspirant, but I don't even notice.

I do have to use a separate stick w/ antiperspirant when I work out, though.

I use a crystal deodorant. I don't mind that it's not an anti-antiperspirant, so long as I don't smell. I've also noticed that my skin is a lot less irritated after shaving too. I used to have horrible problems with bumps and ingrown hairs, and they're all gone now (I don't use shaving cream anymore either--that might have something to do with it).

I use Crystal, too, and love it. But has anyone's Crystal started giving off a musty odor? I've had mine for a while, so that may be why. But I have 80% of the crystal left, so I'd hate to throw it away.

I thought deodorants aren't supposed to keep your armpits dry, they're just supposed to keep them from smelling. Antiperspirant keeps your armpits dry.
