I use Crystal, too, and love it. But has anyone's Crystal started giving off a musty odor? I've had mine for a while, so that may be why. But I have 80% of the crystal left, so I'd hate to throw it away.
Try holding it under warm running water until the outer layer dissolves a bit. I'd hate to throw it out, too.
UPDATE:
Earlier I mentioned that the crystal worked until I started to sweat, then I would smell, and this was always before my shift ended at work. I started using it again, and it's a lot more 'broken in' now...
It crumbles a lot more now, and even when it's totally dry I can wipe away some salty dust with my fingertips. And, it seems to be working MUCH BETTER now...and one day it lasted over 16 hours, but I wasn't really doing a whole lot.

the crystal works pretty well for me ... way better than all other natural/vegan deoderants I've tried, but I'm still looking for something that's less faff for using while camping. a roll on that works, preferably an antiperspirant, vegan ... I don't care if it's natural tbh. Anyone have any ideas? :( I've tried the roll-on cystal and it doesn't work very well and stinks of alcohol.

I found the crystal to work ok if enough was applied, I wouldn't feel confident using it for sport or anything. What I don't like about it is that you can't be clumsy and keep it for long, it just shatters.

I like Alvera Natural Deodorant. I bought it from Drugstore.com, but it doesn't seem like they carry it there anymore. Check around, it's pretty good stuff and cheap.

yeah, it could've also been your body getting used to something a lot more natural than what you had before. acclimating itself to something better and sweating out the funk from the other brand.
i have a crystal and i also just got Liken Deodorant (http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=vegane&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=748073756&Count2=665214180&CategoryID=23&Target=products.asp) by Earth Science. i like it so far.

as far as definitively not all-natural antiperspirants go, Almay and Mitchum don't test (both owned by Revlon). I've not used Almay, but Mitchum works really well.

I have the Alvera almonds & aloe. It works good for me. The only thing is not everyone is fond of the sweet girly purfume-like smell of it.

At the moment I've got Tisserand Aromatherapy Lavender and Tea Tree roll on. You still sweat sometimes but when you do all you can smell is tea tree!!!
I don't mind sweating a bit anyway. I'm a mammal, it's natural

Some guys like it... :p The one I have is Aloe unscented. :D I wouldn't have thought that the almonds and aloe one was girly smelling... I have a moisturizer (Earth Science) of the same scent and it's very gender neutral.

Yeah. It doesn't kill bacteria or anything, so bacteria feed on any sweat residue left on it & create funk. I don't think crystals do much at all, really.

There's no denying that they do SOMETHING. At least mine does anyway... It's different from any other 'mineral salt' I've ever been exposed to.
When I bought my first one, I unwrapped it...and licked it (I know...ew). It was TERRIBLE!!!! It didn't taste salty or minerally at all!!! I couldn't even begin to guess what kinds of earthly deposits were in there, but it must be rather unfriendly to any bacteria trying to live in it.

I am having good success with spraying my pits with witch hazel that has lavender and tea tree oils dropped in it and then topped up by the crystal.
The witch hazel reduces PH so bacteria can't live and the oils are antibacterial.

I havent had trouble with using natural deodorants for helping w/my smell; just has depended on what the scent is. It's using one to help with perspiration that hasnt been successful for me. Right now, I am using Nature's Gate Organics persimmon rose geranium. It doenst do much for sweating, but it smells consistant, unlike the grapefruit scent I have tried of theirs...phew!

Which brand do you use, then? Sounds good.
it's not like I'm a fan of the aluminium in my deodorant, it's just all that's worked for me so far. :[

Thanks, LovelyPerv. I'll try getting rid of the top layer.
I LOVE the crystal. I just bought ones for my mom and sister, too. It definitely works for me -- even in the summer.
(I think Crystal is the brand-name.)

i've tried the crystals, it worked okay for a while, then suddenly i was getting rashes, so i tried kiss my face active enzyme -- uh, didn't work well either. now i'm using baking soda every other day and it's been working really well.

I was using a natural with hemp oil, it lasted maybe 3 hours. I tried the Kiss My Face Patchouli (for some reason I love that scent) and it works pretty good so far, but its still winter....lol

I think winter's the worst for sweat, though, because you only ever sweat enough to get a tiny bit sticky. And that's gross. In the summer, it feels like you're sweating proper sweat... and plus, loads of other people are too, so you don't just look like a sweaty vegan.
I'm definitely going to get hold of some baking soda, 'cos that sounds like the best "natural" bet from what people have said here.

haha, sweaty vegan.
I use the tom's of maine, and haven't had issue... yet. My friend Saturday actually made me take off my shirt (I was wearing a tanktop under) and let her smell, lol. It didn't smell like anything, which is good in my book. This was a few hours after application too. It smells slightly like lavender, which I like.
If you wash with antibacterial soap in the shower that should help with the smelling. It's not good for the environment, so I'm trying to break that habit. The aluminum in deodorant is rumored to be linked to breast cancer, so I avoid it. What is this crystal everyone is speaking of?

This sounds odd, but has anybody tried olive oil? It worked better for me than the deoderant I have.

I am trying Tom's of Maine today for the first time and I just can NOT get used to only wearing a deodorant and not an antiperspirant..it feels icky to me. But I sweat a lot. Are there natural vegan antiperspirants or just deodorants?
