I have just gotten a cold (headach, sniffles, achey, feeling like crud...)
I usually do yoga classes throughout the weeknights, is this a bad idea while I"m on my cold? Or will it help strenghten my immune system?

Is it one of those strenuous yoga classes or a laid back one? If it was laid back I would go. But if it was a more strenuous one I would go too because I like exercises during colds. But not flus.
I'm not sure if the others in the class would appreciate you blowing your nose and sneezing around the room. :)

I tend to take it easy when sick - you don't want to be sick even longer! But if it is a nice relaxing yoga class I'd definitely go. That being said, as the previous poster mentioned, I wouldn't go if I thought my sniffles, sneezes, etc would be persistent enough to bother the other people!

i tend to veiw 'feeling like crud' as a sign that my body wants me to slow down. i think you have to trust how you feel really though.
i agree, contaminating people with your germs probably won't go down well- could you wear a classy face mask, or do yoga at home in a nice steamy eucalyptus scented bathroom instead, or something?

Wow, how big is your bathroom, jen? I don't think I could do the Sun Salutation in my bathroom.

Most fitness books and periodicals advise against strenuous exercise while ill with anything. A good walk and some stretching should keep your joints lubed up, though.

it aint huge, but i'm not very energetic either, hehehe. my idea of a yoga workout would probably be reaching for the shampoo bottle or shaving my legs. you could always move the eucalyptus and a humidifier/bowl of water on a radiator to another room though.

If you are ill, I believe you need to rest. Skip the exercise until you are feeling better.

I'm just over a cold. I found that yoga was really weird with a stuffy head. That first forward bend or downward facing dog - strange when I couldn't breath through my nose! However I think the yoga helped clear out my sinuses faster than usual. I'd say do it as long as you feel fine, and breath through your mouth when you need to!

I read an article in a (not totally reliable) magazine that it is perfectly fine to exercise as usual when you have a cold, but not to go exercising because you have a cold. I have no idea if that is true, but I have no trouble using an illness as an excuse to avoid exercising :p

You should really be resting while youve got a cold. Its not that fair to take your viruses to classes either where youre going to infect other people. youre best off at home under a warm blanket and staying well hydrated. :)

I sometimes workout when I have a cold. I usually feel better afterwards. I know I can breathe alot easier when I workout. If I'm really feeling like crap, I wouldn't workout at all or stick to something light like yoga. Kali I agree, if people are sick they should stay home. Especially the people who cough and sneeze without covering their mouth. That irritates the heck out of me.
