So with the new state subforums, we should make separate threads or different parts of the state, since Florida is such a big place. From the old main thread, it seemed like most people here from Florida are from the Tampa area. But I'm sure I can't be the only one from the southeast portion of the state.

So who here's from the tri-county (Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach) area?

I'm in Boynton Beach, which is southern Palm Beach county.

I was born and raised in Broward County. My parents still live in Coconut Creek and I have relocated to Gainesville.

I lived most of my life in South Florida. Born in Hollywood, then lived in Miami and West Palm Beach. Left WPB to join the Navy 5 years ago and now I'm in Jacksonville (after spending 3.5 years in CA).

The Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach metropolitan area, most commonly referred to as South Florida, or the Miami Metro Area.

I finally made the switch to veg. Finally! I am doing ok, but I could sure use some local support. It is good to see that there are some locals like you posting on this board. Are there any meet ups? Is there a way that the local veggies connect?

I go and check out the meet ups on meetup dot com. But I've only gone to one meet up so far. Cool people's though. :)

:hi: Welcome to the boards and to vegetarianism!

The meetup website is good. The Farm Sanctuary Walk for Farm Animals (http://www.walkforfarmanimals.org/fliers08/FL%20-%20Miami%20Walk%20Flier.pdf) is Oct 5, it starts at the Whole Foods on Alton & 10th. I went last year by myself (my fiancee was working) and I met lots of great people. We'll probably be going and could meet up with you there!

Ok, so I should have seen this before responding to you in the other thread. Definitely check out meetup.com. There's a South Florida veg group that seems to meet sporadically, and also a Palm Beach County veg group that has monthly meetings (at least). Where in South Florida are you? If you're in Palm Beach County, let me know, and I'll point you towards good falafel. :D

Oops! I must've unsubscribed to this thread by accident. It is so nice to have heard back from you all. I missed the Farm Sanctuary Walk due to a prior obligation. How was it? I will def be at future meets. Some local support could be great!

Fromper, I am in South Beach. However, I travel quite often to the WPB area. Where should I try some tasty eats? I would love to expand my repertoire!

Meanwhile, I have joined the MeetUps. See you all soon!

:hi: We're in South Beach too (well at least for a little while longer, likely moving in March). I ended up not going to the FS walk because I was sick :(

Awh, too bad you got the bug. I have been hearing that something is going around. I always feel it is so yucky to have a hot weather ailment.

Are you moving far away from Sobe? I'm originally from the NE, but I just love it here! Weather is sooo much better!

I was actually in Canada (where I'm originally from) when I caught the bug.. but there is definitely something going around here (I'm hoping it's the same thing, I don't want to get another sickness!)

I don't think we're moving too far away. Off of Miami Beach most likely. It's just too expensive here.

The two suggestions that jump to mind immediately are Pine Garden Chinese Restaurant in Boca Raton and Fala Pita in Boynton Beach. Pine Garden has a vegan menu that's as big as their omni menu, with at least 100 dishes to choose from. Fala Pita is a fast food falafel place right next to I-95 at Woolbright Road, so it's very easy to get to if you're passing by. Let me know if you need directions.

Sweet! I am so going to give those a try the next time I am in the area. Traveling through Europe I began a love affair w/falafel. I have yet to find a place stateside that compares. Mostly, the ingredients just don't taste fresh. Yuck.

Have you tried any of the prepackaged falafel products out there?

No. Actually, I'd never had falafel before going veg. Fala Pita is only about a mile and a half from my home, so that was where I first tried falafel, and it's still the only falafel I've ever had, so I can't tell you how it compares to any other. But it got very favorable reviews from several newspapers in the area, so I'm not the only one who thinks it's good.
