I tried the Fauxtess Twinkie, and their Chocodile. I had a cold at the time, so I couldn't taste them that well. But I must say they were too heavey to be convincing replicas of Twinkie sponge cake. They weren't bad, but could have been less "hearty".
Soy Decadence ice cream... they make good fake ice creams, except for one thing. They need to add salt to their dang formulas! I end up stirring a bit of salt in myself, and it does so much for the flavor.

Whichever suits your fancy. I like mint chocolate chip and their new pomegranite chip is good (that one doesn't even really need salt). Plain old vanilla is nice (with a touch of salt).

Ok thanks. :) This might be a weird question...but why add salt? I've never heard of putting salt into ice cream (or soy ice cream) and it sounds strange to me...

Well, alot of desserts use salt. I don't know exactly *why* it makes them taste better, but I know from experience that it does. When you've got just a flat out sweet taste, there's something boring about it with alot of prepared desserts. Add salt, and the flavor is enhanced. Also with ice cream, cow milk is alot saltier than soybeans, so if you want a traditional ice cream taste it needs a little salt in there.
But judge for yourself! Try it without adding any salt, then mix in just a pinch and compare. :chef:

You should always add a pinch of salt to baked goods and other sweets because salt helps to bring out the natrual sweetness of a dish. (or so says my Grandmothers 1940's antique baking cookbook)

as for salt, you need to add it to all desserts...just a little bit. cookies, cakes, everything. it helps bring out the flavors... w/o it, flavors are "flat". it apparently plays with the taste buds...you get the sweet then the salty. thats why choc covered pretzels and potato chips are soo yummy.
its very in vogue these days to fiind sea salt on top of chocolate.

Well ya I know salt goes in lots of desserts like baked goods, etc. but I've never heard of anyone actually adding it to ice cream themselves. Just doesn't sound right to me! Maybe I'm weird...

I haven't looked at the ingredients of dairy ice cream lately, but cow milk is so salty by itself that they might not add it to basic flavors. Soy, on the other hand, is not salty. So if ya want a traditional ice cream taste, the salt helps, and for some reason Soy Decadence doesn't use it in their recipe..so I end up adding it usually. Whatever suits your taste buds, though.
