I'm looking for something to keep from eating/bingeing at night -- coffee used to be it but I'm trying to cut down on caffeine. Any suggestions? Anyone tried that Teecino stuff? (Green tea is great but has caffeine.)

What do you think causes your late night binging?

For me, I eat a lot at night if I'm hungry, which would mean I didn't get enough calories during the day. Adding beans, nuts, healthy fats, seems to keep me fuller longer. Also, try not to look at food after whatever time you dont want to eat anymore. I'm full after dinner, but if my boyfriend makes a late night plate, I want some.

Ignoring cravings during the day also does not help me any. If I want something sweet, or something fried, or something salty I need oil or sugar or salt to make the craving go away. Eating something else doesn't help, and denying my cravings all day will inevitably end in me eating a whole lot of whatever I craved all day. When a cookie would have satisfied my sweet tooth at lunch, I might eat a whole box at night.

If it's boredom, entertain yourself. If its emotional, I'm not sure. I don't know why an appetite suppressant like caffiene should be necessary, if you're hungry, eat! are you trying to lose weight?

When I know I'm not hungry and I'm just wanting to snack I brush my teeth! Then I don't want to dirty them again before going to bed, so I won't eat. lol... sounds kinda silly, but it works!

That's a tough one :). I'm just trying to control my binge eating, so I can relate :).

One thing that's helped me in the past month is to make something kind of vegan dessert that I look forward to every evening. I like to munch at night and I've come to the conclusion that trying to control this habit is counterproductive to me. So I make sure to leave enough calories for the end of the day so I can have some healthy munchies (like popcorn or bran cereal with soy milk). But some kind of dessert that I can handle helps me a lot. usually that's dark chocolate. For some reason, dark chocolate I can eat in a normal portion and it satisfies me. Lindt 70% dark chocolate is vegan :).

What about chai tea? Does that have caffeine in it? I love Chai tea.

Also I snack on nuts a lot. They are relatively filling and good to fill cravings with.

Chai tea has caffeine.

I usually shut my belly up with a banana. And if it's really bad I smear some peanut butter on it.

teeccino is so yummy! I love the carob mint one a lot! Add some soy milk and I'm set. :D Yum! Plus it helps with regularity. I highly recommend it.

I hate eating right before I go to sleep...just because I wind up not sleeping very well, and get freakish nightmares.

If it's just the munchies...I'll just drink a bit of water and go to bed anyways... ignoring it. If I'm thinking of food while trying to drift off to sleep, I just lay there and plan my breakfast the next morning.

If I'm HUNGRY, I'll go on and have a light snack. Crypto mentions bananas, and they're simple and work pretty well (no cooking/heating, and no dishes, yay!). I may share a slice of bread with the dogs, a small tomato, 4-6 tortilla chips, etc...

TIP:
The big factor for me is having the undigested food in my stomach when going to sleep. So, to counter this, after eating my snack I make sure I stay UP for at least another half hour. I don't mean book-reading, I mean UP. Wash a few dishes, walk the dogs, clean a litterbox, etc. Then, drink a small glass of water.

This seems to help it move along out of my stomach, so I don't have Banana-burps the next morning after dreaming I was naked at a movie theater.

Caffeine isn't that bad in small amounts. It's naturally found in some foods that are healthy for you. Raw chocolate is one of the heathiest foods for you and it has some caffieine in it in small amounts.

I eat some volume heavy but low calorie foods if I am hungry at a real late time like fruit, steamed veggies, or I use my limitless willpower to consume only one cookie. lol

I love bananas, and they satisfy some cravings, but sometimes, I feel like I just need to have peanut butter on the banana. I'm not certain why...I mean, it's good, but not that good. Perhaps there is something in peanut butter that my body needs? Or perhaps it's just all in my head. But, when i finally get that taste of peanut butter banana, I am satisfied.
