I just tried this stuff called soyrizo. I made a breakfast burrito, with soyrizo, hashbrowns and salsa, and it was really good! I have never had chorizo but my omni boyfriend said that he couldn't tell the difference. I think the company name was El Burrito. I really recommend it if you like mexican food :lick:

I think it's a fake sausage, Am I right? If so i've had it before. Not bad, Tends to fall apart so you're best bet is to just use it as a minced sausage and by-pass trying to fool with it whole.

its fake chorizo which is a type of mexican sausage. It is supposed to fall apart, i think, regular chorizo does. It is almost like a paste.

I bought a package around christmas time and haven't known what to do with it, so I just stuck it in the freezer. Maybe I'll make breakfast burritos this weekend!

I only had real chorizo at a mexican restaurant once (long time ago). Soyrizo doesn't taste like the real thing, but don't get me wrong - Soyrizo is good. It's just it tastes different to me.

I also like it in chili. Gives it a unique flavor.

Guess it depends on where you get it, and the recipe they use. Several members of my boyfriend's family (they are of Mexican heritage) make it, and he said he can't tell a difference. Anyway, weather it tastes the same or not, it is good. It is good with eggs too, or egg substitute if you are vegan.

^^^Well that was a pretty amazing first post.

Anyway, yeah, I think it depends on what chorizo recipe you're used to. All my omni friends swear its very scary-similar to the "real" stuff when I make Soyrizo breakfast burritos for them - and I'm even using tofu scramble instead of eggs.

I'd also have to say it is almost indistinguishable from the real thing; the only difference being the amount of oil/fat that comes off as it cooks - the taste is pretty much the same.

I've seen it in the store and I've been tempted to try it but never have. Now - obviously, I must pick some up soon. It should give my black beans the little "oomph" they've been lacking since having to ditch "real" chorizo.
