I have started walking with a pedometer and every day try to do a minimum of the recommended 10,000 steps. On Monday I managed over 26,000 steps which I was really pleased about and it made me feel fabulous! I have noticed every day my fitness level is rising and I am able to do and enjoy more steps. I can't recommend it enough. I have an Omron pedometer and I am very pleased with its accuracy.

I don't believe you! If you did 26,000 steps in England, you'd walk off the edge!
I've had one for a few years, but lost it a couple of weeks back so bought a new one, which has a clock function and a safety strap. I hardly ever get beyond 15,000 steps in a day.

I guess the few I've tried have been cheaply made. They never worked well for me.

Well, if you're a bloke, you can stand in the middle and pee over the edge! :D

When walking with a pedometer...I don't seem to even reach 10,000 steps per day. It's rediculous, I am so unfit!

One of my strategies is to park as far away from the shops as I can, which has the added advantage of always being able to find a space.
I also have a treadmill with a TV in front of it.
But, I only did 8,000 steps today.

This is how many steps a day I usually do. This weekend I havent worn it bc I kept forgetting to put it on, but I will again monday! *Not to Hijack this thread or anything* Maybe we should come here and put how many steps we did each day! fun times :) Maybe it will motivate us more to do more steps.

Hey, she DOES look like 99!

Bof, I wish I had a treadmill. I'd use it for at least an hour or two daily.

I average 8,500 on days I don't go to the gym (where I usually do 60 minutes on the treadmill). My pedometer doesn't log the bike, yoga or Pilates though. :p

I'll be looking for that treadmill from far away this Fall, Bof! That is, if I can wait that long. :D

You'd better reread my offer, possum! :D

I did 10,500 steps yesterday.

What brands do you recommend for a good pedometer? I'd like to get one. The ones I've used would clock weird movements (sitting, etc.) as walking and it just was never accurate.

I guess they don't clock your movements when you're on a spin bike, either?

I have a Digi Walker (http://www.pedometersaustralia.com/p/399980/yamax-digi-walker-sw700-pedometer.html) which I've only had a few weeks, so can't comment on long term reliability.

Before I got my dog I averaged at about 3000 steps per day *woops*.

But now I average at about 7000 a day. I'm happy with that.

All thanks to my dog :)

Not that anyone's still reading this, but

I got one of these (http://www.shoeodometer.com/)yesterday.

I'm still calibrating it but I'm betting it can be used for Pilates and possibly biking.
