In terms of staying regular, is it better to take a magnesium supplement or drink "get regular" teas?

I have been taking a magnesium powder supplement everynight for the past year that my alternative doctor gave me to help my IBS and constipation. It definitely works...

but I have also seen the "get regular" yogi teas which contain senna leaf, anise, cardamom, ginger and much more.

In terms of regularity would it be better to drink a cup of tea before bed or to take the magnesium?

No matter how healthy I eat, or how balanced it is I still struggle with bowel issues, its just how my digestive system is I guess :/

Those "regularity teas" tend to cause diarrhea. They work like a laxative. I wouldn't take them.

I'd stick with your magnesium for now.

Have you tried psyllium (spelling?) husks? They work quite well for some people too. The most popular brand is Metamucil, an evil Proctor and Gamble company. But luckily, you can find other brands at your health food store.

senna is a laxative- and not recommended for long term use. i'd steer clear if i was you, especially if what you've got now is working.

Magnesium also has the benefit of helping you sleep more restfully. I'd stick with the magnesium as well. :) Besides, I know a lot of people aren't fans of doctors on here, but you really should be talking with your doctor before you make any adjustments - especially before stopping medication/supplementation that is working for you.
