white wave => creepy?

Did anyone else notice that White Wave, who makes Silk soymik, has another soy milk called Sun Soy? The nutritional information is exactly the same but silk cost a couple dimes more. Sun Soy isn't listed on White Wave's website and isn't advertised. However, Silk is promoted and through ads and lots of coupons. Also, I've only found Sun Soy in a few stores and my school's caf. What's up with this? It's creeping me out!

I'm not suprised, since white wave was bought out by "big dairy" a few years ago. I don't buy silk because of that.

i think the difference is sun soy isn't made with organic soy beans. it's sort of like sun soy is the "poor person's" silk.

I was going to post about that, too. Sun Soy actually tastes great. But, now that I've gone 90% organic (always striving for 100%), I don't drink it.

I avoided Silk for a long time, which was easy because Whole Foods sells a fantastic organic soymilk for quite a bit less than White Wave (I also object to supporting Dean Foods any more than I "have" to as a vegan). For a while, Whole Foods didn't have their own soy milk anymore, so I went to Silk. It does taste great, and I drink it and use it in my cereal when I'm dog-sitting for vegans that do buy Silk but, now that Whole Foods has brought back their soymilk, that's about the only time you'll see me drink Silk.

i did some research on dean foods with www.responsibleshopper.org and dean foods has a product called 'atkins.' do they own the atkins diet plan?!?

I think that Dean Foods owns the Atkins Pickle Plant. Not, Dr. Atkins products :)

I love Whole Foods soymilk too, Epski. It's the best tasting one to me.

actually, there is a difference in the vanilla sunsoy and silk. The sunsoy's vanilla tastes more sugarery (it has more sugar) than silk's vanilla. Just thouhght I'd point that out.

I think it IS the organic thing...

Silk is my favorite brand of soymilk, but if I could find one I liked better, I'd buy that instead, since I don't like supporting Dean Foods.

Whoa, I didn't know that Silk/Sun Soy thing :eek: Although, oddly enough, at the store I go to, Silk is the less expensive one, so I've always bought that one -- I didn't know one was organic and one wasn't, or um.... really, anything behind it ^_^; Such as supporting Dean Foods. But it's all I can get around here, so I do the best I can. Silk it is, then.

Whole Foods did a poll a year ago that asked customers what brand they associated WFM with, and the answer came up 365, and not the WFM brand. The difference between the two cheap brands was that 365 was conventional, and the WFM label was organic. WFM decided to change the WFM label to "365 Organic," and one by one the WFM labels have been disappearing each month for a few weeks at a time in order to come back as their new shiny label (though the product is identical.)

Yeah. The new packages have much better design, too. It was worth the wait. Now I'm waiting on greater variety of 365 organic pasta sauces.

ahhhh i hate living in vegan food variety deprived quebec...all these yummy sounding choices... and we just get the commercial stuff if we get anything.. well thats not entirely true but for soy milk ( i drink rice milk for milk replacement so my knoqledge is limited) but im bombarded by soy sensation in the stores the one that is advertized constantly... anyway and whole foods is totally foreign to me but it sounds intriqueing... i cant wait to make that trip across the border!!!!!

(by the way some of the reasons we dont have it if the rest of the canadians out there do is that the packaging is english)

Javaprincess, whenever I go to Québec I find it so easy to eat! (Of course, I've always gone to Québec City and Montréal.)

They always have delicious non-meat patés and they have so many flavors of soy milk! In the USA you'll only ever see chocolate, vanilla, and plain, but in Québec you'll see strawberry and mocha! Mmm... I've never seen strawberry in the US. :( It's so good.

Avalon lives around Montréal if you need some food tips. :)

BTW, Whole Foods Market opened a store in Toronto last year, and are currently building one in Vancouver. It'll probably be many years before they decide to break a language barrier, however.

i didnt know you guys didnt have the other flavoured soy milk..:eek: in total mock shock Canada has a product first.:eek: man they came out with crazy flavours this year i cant even remember them... i didnt try them i was kinda afraid of them but my omni coworkers did they all drink soy milk :) but they decided to stick to vanilla

ya the vege pates that was my friend who introduced me to veg-world (lol) staple all through high school. they are pretty good

my little boonie town in fl has mocha and coffee flavored soy milks. i was shocked! we only have silk or 2 store brands though. i tried 8th continent since my omni mom and daughter both rave about it but had to travel to find it.....i'll stick with silk for now

Silk makes a bunch of flavors actually. At Wild Oats they carry the standard regular, vanilla, and chocolate, but they also have coffee, chai, and a spice flavor. They also carry unsweetened, which is great for making mashed potatoes, soup and casserole. Most soy milk just tastes way to sweet to me.

A couple of days ago I emailed Sun Soy to tell them how much I enjoyed their product. I asked if there were any plans to put out soy yogurt/ice cream, and they told me they already had yogurt... Silk yogurt! :confused: Huh? I had no idea Silk and Sun Soy were made by the same company! I actually like Sun Soy better...

They were all out of Sun Soy this week (which I suppose is a good thing) so, I got Silk. But, they're basically they same thing, right? Except Silk is organic, and Sun isn't... I wonder why I liked the taste of Sun Soy better? Hmm.

Not me! I even use the vanilla flavor soy milk in my mashed potatoes, for an extra sweet taste. I really need to try and lay off the sweets a bit.

I think Sun Soy is sweeter. I really have gotten to like Silk more than all the others. Even though I buy 365 now, I don't mind one bit when we run out and I have to go next door to the regular grocery store and get Silk to tide us over.

Not all vanilla-flavored soymilks are sweetened, btw. Some simply add vanilla extract. I don't know off the top of my head what they are, but I remember seeing it once. Check the labels next time you go to the store.

Has anyone (other than me, of course) tried Eden Foods Soymilk? I haven't tried any of the other, because I found Eden's to be very satisfying.
