Hiyas:

I need some advice on how to get the mix right. I've been veg for a month now, reading all I can and trying to transition sensibly, but have put on a kilo in weight.

I'm eating lots of veg, "good" carbs -- basmati or brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, sweet potato, but think I may be overdoing it in the protein area. I don't eat many nuts (occasionally peanut butter), but lots of soy products, pulses and occasionally prepackaged veggie burgers.

What proportion should I be aiming at? 2/3 veg; 1/3 carb; 1/3 protein??? Don't want to deprive my body as I have endocrine burnout, but DONT want to gain weight either.

Ideas, folks?

thanks,

Moonscribe

First, I'd like to say welcome!
It's always great to see a new Vegetarian who is concerned about what they are eating. =)

Most doctors suggest you aim for 60-70% carbs, 5-10% protein (0.8 grams of protein for every kilogram you weigh) and 30% fats.

If you don't want to gain weight, you need to make sure you're not eating too many calories.

This is a great calculator:
http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html

Then based on the calories you need, you can use a website like http://www.calorie-count.com to see if what you're eating is more than what you actually need.
