Two of my favourite stores are Hollister [Co.] and Abercrombie [and Fitch] are using fur in their sweaters!

Some, not all, of their sweaters use around 10-15% Angora, which is the hair of a rabbit.

I was shocked to find this out! It seemed like the stores were almost "hiding" it. I actually didn't know what Angora was until I looked it up.

Anyone else realize this? Know any other places that use "hidden" furs?

Angora has been pretty trendy in teenage girls sweaters the past couple of years. It's annoying, but at least you now know what to look for on the label.

Those stores are horrible. Shop at goodwill.

I agree. Those places are expensive and whenever i go in places like that the girls that shop in there give me this snobby look like i stepped on their cat.
Guess i'm supposed to look exactly like them or i'm not allowed in the store?

I like Cotton Ginny alot better. Their clothing is comfortable and most of it is organic cotton clothing.

I actually used to love the styles at Abercrombie. I still have a few basics that have lasted over the years. I've gotten a bit to old to shop there now, though. The salespeople can be a bit snobby, but I find that typical of most places I go. Ironically, my worst employee issue experiences have all been at Wal-Mart. Thankfully, I now live in a city with lots of shopping options :)

Oh, Jeez! Wal*Mart! I hate how most of their stuff comes from sweatshops, but it's the only place that you find a huge variety of stuff later at night. I refuse to buy their clothes now, haven't gotten clothes from there in a really long time. Besides their clothes fall apart.

I agree. I love goodwill. I've found a lot of name brand clothes there for dirt cheap. I despise abercrombie and hollister. They are INSANELY expensive. And what is up with Hollister? Their lighting is horrible and do they put cologne in the airvents? Its so stinky and dark in there ;)

American Eagle too! I got a gift card to there for christmas, I think my mom mistook it for American Apparel (which can be pricey, but sweatshop free). Anyways, I went in there to try and spend it and all of the sweaters and gloves were made with angora, shopping there put me in a bad mood. :p

I've never been in Hollister or Abercrombie. I think they'd throw me out. I haven't really found any "hidden" fur in Hot Topic products. They do sell leather, but most of their shoes and corsets are made with pleather or man-made materials. I dunno, I just shop at Goodwill or on Ebay. I find a lot of awesome stuff on Ebay.

I'm a huge fan of American Apparel. Never been to an Abercrombie, or Hollister, but enjoy the fact that American Apparel is good to their workers, and that most of their clothes are all cotton, or man made materials.

I've never heard of American Apparel... I don't shop at any of those stores because 1) I hate the workers and the people that go there, 2( It STINKS, I swear I almost passed out from whatever they sprayed all over their store just walking past the place! 3( I hate the clothes, Even before I realized that fuex fur is no longer safe, I refused to look there just because it seemed like the type of store that would be likely to sell fur and sweatshop products.

I shop at charity shops, It's cheap, You can find a lot of great stuff if you take the time to look. Plus, It's a lot better for the environment to buy slightly used items rather than all new. On my last trip I found 2 plaid and a pleather skirt, A pleather trench coat and a hemp bag all for less than $20.

Angora is fur in the sense that wool is fur. It does come from a rabbit but the rabbit isn't skinned. I believe it is combed from the underside of the belly.

Not that that is much consolation for people who don't wear animal fibers.

I used to LOVE Hollister but since I'm not a size 3 anymore I can't shop there!! I heart G Dubb or Goodwill as most people call it!! I also shop at Plato's Closet a lot seeing as they usually have a bigger variety of cute clothes! Ragstock is great too! Peace & Love!! Muah!!

I like Hollister and Abercrombie clothes, but i can't afford them (who can?!?!?!). also hate how the stores are LOUD, dark (its IMPOSSIBLE to see what your trying on), and snobby. i still go in whenever i'm at the mall though, because if you search through the sale bins, you can get some bargains-- i got a pair of cute shorts there for $9.90

i'm more dietary vegan/vegan for health benefits than anything else, but i won't buy leather/products that kill the animal. but i do have a sweater thats has angora and a wool hat (although one was a gift and the other i bought before being vegan).

I like JC Pennies and Ross. :]

I think most of the sweaters I've seen lately have fake wolf-looking fur on them. Especially on the trim of hoods.

I can't stand Hollister clothing and it has nothing to do with the rabbit fur (although that helps strengthen my feelings towards them). The reason I never liked them is because I used to live by Hollister, CA and there's not a damn thing special about it.

I walked into that store and saw a shirt that said "Hollister SO'CA" as in Souther California. Makes it seem very LA or something. They make it seem very beach like too. Don't get me wrong you can easily drive to the beach from Hollister...but I don't consider it a beach town if it takes more then 45 minutes to get there! Hollister isn't even in Souther California its in Central and surrounded by farm land. The beach Seems like a stupid reason to hate the store but it just bugs the CRAP out of me for some reason.

Here's someone who shares my views...mainly because they are from Hollister.

Lol, I live in LA, that is really funny about Hollister. American Apparel is just about the most irritatingly hipster, obnoxious store I've ever shopped at. Their owner is facing some criminal charges for sexually harassing his employees right now. I don't like Abercrombie or Hollister, American Eagle always seemed like a more reasonable version of those clothes.

I like Forever 21 now, personally, and H&M, but styles change. I thought you meant that these stores were using actually skinned fur, and I almost flipped out, I didn't think fur had become that mainstream!! I wouldn't buy angora hair sweaters anyway because I have bunnies and it still makes me sad to think of them living in shoebox sized cages so people can have angora hair sweaters! Though, I wouldn't mind donating my bunnies' massive amounts of hair to become someone's sweater!
