Has anyone tried bare escentuals or any other mineral makeups? I went to the BE store today and had a little makeup put on, it looked nice and the colors are so pretty. Any opinions on this or other brands?

I like it :) My non-veg mother got me into mineral make-up stuff and it's been awesome. Sometimes though I still want a "foundation" type thing to smooth on. So I blend it with some lotion. Works nicely! I'd have to check but I'm pretty sure I've been using bare minerals... could be escentuals though. Try some and see what you think after you have a basic powder and eyeshadow :) Most of them are vegan, I believe.

Bare Escentuals doesn't come in a shade pale enough for me, but I absolutely love Alima (http://www.alimacosmetics.com) mineral foundation. It doesn't irritate my skin, provides good coverage, looks really natural. I haven't tried Everyday Minerals (http://www.everydayminerals.com) but I have quite a few friends who like it. I'll probably send out for some of their samples, I'm a makeup fiend.

I think they're the same company, there's a link to bare minerals from the BE site. the only ingredient I found was carmine, and that was in the mineral veil *i think* Good idea to blend it with moisturizer, I think i'm getting tired of liquid foundation tho.

I got some of the mineral foundation for Christmas. Similar to Cissy, it's kind of orange-y for my skin. And I don't really know how to use it. I'm sure if I actually knew how to apply it I'd appreciate it more!

I have tried the mineral makeup and I don't really like it but I may switch anyway just because it is natural. I make such a mess with that powder! I am sure with practice and a better brush I could do better. I may try the mixing it with lotion though.

I think knowing how to put it on is the trick with BM stuff, and finding the right shade too. I tend to do my makeup in less than 1 minute- no joke. I'm not a make up kind of girl except for a few touches.
You have to have a good brush for putting on BM. It has to be big and fat, all the non-aminal/ synthetic brushes I've ever had have been great. You just kinda rub/swirl the brush around in the top of the jar where there is the dust of the make up. Then you just tap it a little to get it to spread out evenly and brush over your face. Like I said though, if I'm feeling lazy, I do just mix it with my moisturizer which works great :)

I like bare escentuals, but I find that sheer cover provides better coverage!

I've been using it for just over a year and I love it. My skin does some crazy stuff sometimes, so I don't usually leave the house without foundation, and the coverage is just awesome. I work in a daycare, and during the summer we go to the pool pretty often. Even with all the kids' splashing, the Bare Minerals makeup stays put... though I'm sure if I'd go underwater it would all wash off. I tend to avoid going under in public pools, especially the local one. Ack.
Anyway, getting off topic...
I'd still like to try Everyday Minerals and compare the two brands. Has anyone here tried both? Which did you prefer?

I really like Everyday Minerals. I think they have a better selection in terms of foundation & their prices are much, much better. I got one of their custom kits (which came with 2 free eye shadows and an eyebrow brush as free gifts): 2 foundations, 6 eye shadows, 1 concealer, 1 or 2 finishing powders, 3 blushes, the flat-topped kabuki brush and a lip brush for just over $50! And the company is based in Austin, and I live in Texas.

I recently got some samples to try out from Everyday Minerals and I really liked it. Prices are definately reasonable. It takes some getting used to if you aren't accustomed to using loose powders. I think I end up getting about half of it on the bathroom counter and half on my face. :p Once I use up my old make up I plan on switching to the mineral stuff.

I also got the samples from Everyday Minerals and I think once I get use to how to use it, I will like it. I am also going to try the mixing with lotion method. That way I won't make such a mess! :D The only other brand of mineral makeup I have tried is the one from Sally Beauty Supply (I forgot the name). I really didn't care for it, but I admit I didn't try very hard to use it properly. I think the Everyday brand is pretty inexpensive, and the Sally brand wasn't bad either. Some of the more advertised and "name brand" ones are much more.

When I went into the Bare Escentuals store they offered to do some makeup on me, so they showed me how to put it on. The guy said to not open the jars, just poke some holes in the plastic and use it like a salt shaker. I'll definitely check out everyday minerals too, I've never heard of them

I have their under-eye and it really does help to cover up my dark eye circles more than anything else. I'm also extremely pale and almost anything I put on looks really orange or yellow on me. That said, I rarely wear makeup (though maybe I should because it would make the general public quit harping on my appearance, as everyone and their brother feels entitled to tell me "how awful" I look and am I feeling ok I have dark circles under my eyes.)

I started using it in the summer and I really liked it. I didn't think it work for me in the winter because my skin is very dry, but it's still working out nicely. I used to breakout a lot during the winter months so I thought I would need my regular liquid foundation to cover up better, but since using bare minerals I don't break out any more so I don't need a heavy cover up. I'm quite happy with the product.

I love BE. I use their lightest foundation "Fair". My colouring is extremely pale and I find it works great for me. What I love about BE is that you can't feel it on your face at all. As well I have 'problem' skin and it doesn't cause me to break out. I give their stuff a

Some gals on another board (gasp!) are raving about Lily Lolo. I've never heard of them before though. http://www.lilylolo.co.uk/home.php
rc...is the eye product you use from Bare Escentuals?

I have a friend who used the Bare Escentuals products and I thought they looked so good on her - and she really liked them. While I'm not an everyday make-up wearer I like to have some around for those times I do feel like getting dressed-up. So, I ordered some samples, the right brushes, the How-To booklet and tried the Bare Escentuals products for myself. Truthfully, I thought they were "okay". A bit messy until I got the hang of them.
Then I noticed my face itched whenever I wore it and was mildly red & blotchy when I washed it off. Naturally, I stopped wearing the stuff. Then I found this website - Skin Deep (http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/) - and checked out the products. Low and behold, some of the ingredients are slightly toxic! Who knew? I figured it was because I generally don't wear any make-up at all that my skin reacted the way it did.
But my friend, the one who swore by the stuff, called one day and during the course of our conversation she mentioned she'd had to switch cosmetics. The Bare Escentuals was making her face break out, itchy and red. This from a woman who puts on make-up every single day of her life, no exceptions. I can't remember for sure, but I think she switched to Jane Iredale (http://www.astonishingskincare.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=5728&_s_ref=W03UL1XiS&kw=%22jane%20iredale%22&creative=744553451&gclid=CIKS2Nq46ZACFQiaPAod4lXfYg) products.

I found the Kabuki brush to be the best way to apply mineral makeup powder. They are $30.00 most places though! I was able to pick on up on ebay for $15. Mineral makeup is great, but it may be irritating to sensitive skin. It's definately worth buying samples before the full size products.
I do wish Bare esscentials made a foundation liquid though.

Just wanted to say that Bare Escentuals does use animal ingredients in a lot of their products...also their brushes are made from goat hair.

I've used both Bare Escentuals and Everyday Minerals. BE got me into mineral makeup. I never had much luck with liquids. They didn't match my skin. They over-covered my freckles, and they smelled funny. Mineral makeup seemed like a good idea so I got some BE samples on eBay (of course, find a reputable seller) and really liked it. So I began using BE products. The only thing I disliked about BE was that my face always had a dewy look - especially in photos. My face always looked shimmery even though it's not oily. BE is pricey so I decided to look around and found Everyday Minerals...
Everyday Minerals gives you 3 foundation options: Original Glo, Semi-Matte, and Matte. I really like the Semi-Matte. My face doesn't look shimmery or powdered. It looks natural. The mineral foundation isn't heavy. It will cover light blemishes and lighten the dark circles under my eyes, but it's also sheer enough on my cheeks for my freckles to show through. They have concealer also, but thankfully, I rarely need it.
Everyday Minerals is more affordable. (Bare Escentual's 9g foundation is $25.00 vs Everyday Mineral's 8g foundation for $12.00. Everyday Minerals also lets you build your own custom kits or get a free sample kit. I'm hooked on Everyday Minerals now.
I like the products better and they actually cost less. That rarely happens. :nana:
The loose minerals can be messy. Everytime I clean my vanity the dust is a light shade of Golden Medium.

Hi and thank you! I always get directed to this site when I do a google search to find out if products are tested on animals or are vegan so I finally decided to join. I guess I cannot say for sure that BE uses animal ingredients, but when I did a search I found a different forum where someone said they contacted BE and was informed that "they could not guarantee that their ingredients are not animal-derived." And someone else said that the sales person told them their brushes are goat hair. So that's really what I was going by. I suppose I could try to contact them myself and find out. :)
On another note I've been trying to find out whether MOP products are vegan or not and I haven't gotten a reply from them. If anyone has any info on that they could fill me in. :)
Thanks and hope to be posting more!!
