I have been interested in Yoga for a long time and now I want to start. I did some yoga in PE and I really liked it. Now I would perfer a class, but all the ones in town are way expensive and I just renewed my gym membership. (It is a block away from my house, but doesn't have yoga... go figure!) Anyway I have a few questions before I go out and buy.
Where do I get these tapes?
Does anyone have a preference on a certain one?
Do I need a mat or is carpet okay?
How long do most people stay on beg. before switching to adv.?
Do yoga tapes work... have any of you seen results?
I am looking for Hatha Yoga tapes because I want to gain muscle, flexibility, and relieve stress. Thanks!

Some quick ideas:
try your local library, look in used bookstores, borrow from friends. I think someone posted about yoga videos on the internet somewhere. But I can't recall if it was on this board or not.

Do I need a mat or is carpet okay?
--I find that my feet like to slide around on carpet. I get better traction when using a mat.
How long do most people stay on beg. before switching to adv.?
--That really depends on the individual, I think. What your current level of fitness and flexibility is. Even after moving from beginner to intermediate to advanced, some people like to do the beginner stuff on days where they need to take it easy.

--I've never taken a class. It's always been dvd's at home and I've seen lots of great results when I was doing yoga on a regular basis; physically and mentally.

Definitely a mat. They are very cheap and worth it for proper positioning. There are several videos out that are geared to a specific time of day ..... get you going in the AM or wind you down in the evening. Also give pilates a try for variety.
