A shame when thigs like that happen, would never have thought Vitalite suitable for vegans tbh.

I actually didn't know they were planning on making it vegan, so I'm less upset that it isn't vegan at the moment and more happy that it will be in future :)
I used it on occasion for a little while until someone on VB (can't remember who) told me the vitamin D is D3.
I was actually wondering if it was vegan, as it has a big "Dairy Free" thing on each tub.
I'm not a vegan, so this doesn't really concern me, but vitalite is my margarine of choice. And although there's no substitute for butter on crumpets, I'll tolerate vitalite. (The sign of a good margarine!)
The problem is that it seems to be largely unavailable. My local sainsburys doesn't stock it, but thankfully my local spar does.
I have a strange attachment to vitalite. It was sneakily advertised to me as a kid, as in primary school, we'd have a round vitalite tub full of crayons on each table.
I bought a tub of it a few months ago, and brought it to my flat, and my flatmates were amazed that they still make vitalite. Damn right they do! And it is the best way to make toast! It's got a strange nostalgic value to it, as vitalite seemed to be the only margarine there was back in the early nineties.
And those round tubs! - I have to admit, for all the pain in the arse that they can be in student accommodation, where fridge space is something you need to consider, you sometimes wish the tub was square soit'd fit in nice and neatly. But then you remember that if they got rid of the round tub, you'd probably never buy it again!

I'll stick with Pure soy spread, vegan plus it is fortified with things like B12.

Just out of interest, does it say what ingredient in it is not suitable for vegans?

It's the vitamin D, currently it comes from an animal source.

It comes from sheep's wool (they extract it from lanolin).

vitalite is definitely nostalgia in a tub! my favourite photo of me when I was little, I'm sitting on the doorstep of the back door of our old house, wearing godawful nineties clothes (vest and shorts) and as well as half-smoked tabs on the floor there's also, bizarrely, an empty vitalite tub! I don't know which crazy parent thought that photo was a good idea at the time, but I look well neglected.
Yeah, I like Pure a lot, but when I thought vitalite was vegan, the appeal was definitely in the cheapness :)
I agree with the Vitalite nostalgia thing. I clearly remember having it as a child and then reusing the containers for salad/sandwich boxes for school lunches and sometimes recycling them into whatever it was blue peter was using 'round margarine containers' for that week. The music from the 'woooahh vitalite' adverts is forever stuck in my head along with 'if you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit join our club' song from a similar era.
Haven't had vitalite since I was a child, I tend to stick with pure now, which isn't really that expensive (79p in sainsburys). Plus everyone is the house uses it now which keeps things simple.

lol
I can still hear the advert song now
ohhhh vitalite lol
The timing of this is quite spooky , I was in the co-op shop just days before the vegan soceity announced this about vitalite not been vegan, I saw a tub of it and wondered if it was vegan or not, I was going to email the vegan society to ask but they asnwered my question before I could ask it lol.
Hopefully, the vitamin D issue will be resolved, and vitalite will be made vegan.
And even better would be if it made a comeback. Vitalite has a cult status, and it would be a travesty if it became a dead brand.
Come on, they resurrected wispa on a whim, and that was an icon of nineties children. What about vitalite? (Yup, I know it's not dead, but if they don't sell it at sainsburys, it may as well be to me!)

they don't seem to sell it at Tesos either, well not online anyway.

I second this motion. It's not just vitalite though when i was little (early 90's) there were lots of margarines in circular containers now there's only vitalite and not really that. Vitalite used to be a luxury for me as a child, most of the time we had those HUGE square tubs of cheap tesco/sainsburys margarine, yuk. Okay done with the reminising now.
But yes vitalite needs a comeback! It did indeed work for wispa so why not vitalite and club biscuits (vegan ones please). The early 90's was the best era to be a child, we need to celebrate it!
You know, I'm half tempted to start a facebook group dedicated to bringing the profile of vitalite back. The only problem is that all my mates would think I was a nutter! (Which wouldn't be too far from the truth, to be honest!)

Do it. Being the bored person i am i just checked and there is only one vitalite oriented group, which is for the vitalite advert and started by someone who can't spell the word amazing.

well, I keep looking on the tesco website, but all that comes up is "Muller vitality" and "Alberto Vo5 Sheer Vitality Shampoo " etc. But I don't think that they put every thing on their website.
