This may already be on here somwhere, but I haven't found it yet. I'm looking into a vegetarian or at least very-low-meat diet (I'm not looking for advice about this right now!). But I know for sure that I want to stop drinking as much milk. Only problem is, I'm a huge fan of cheese. I was wondering if you know of any GOOD non-milk cheeses? I live in the US, in New York state. I don't want to waste money "experimenting" with every cheese I can find, so any recommendations would be great!

I've yet to find a good non-dairy veg*n cheese. Sorry.

Tofutti cheese slices are good for sandwiches, but you have to get used to the taste, if you were previously a fan of regular cheese.

Vegan Gourmet cheeses...the website is at www.imearthkind.com....are amazing, fantastic, tasty, melty, versatile, so I've been told. I haven't been able to get my hands on any yet. See if the cheez is sold in your area, if not, consider ordering it, I've heard it's great.

We got the vegan gourmet cheese in Atlanta. The nacho wasn't all that great, but the mozzarella was pretty good. It really does melt, but it cools and congeals very quickly. I think the vegan gourmet mozzarella would be good in stuff like lasagna, ravioli, stuffed pasta shells, etc.--things that retain the heat well. If it stays at a fairly high temperature, it has texture and taste not unlike ricotta.

Oh man, this stuff is made by the same company that makes Vegenaise? It's got to be good, I couldn't live without Vegenaise.

If you're not concerned about trace dairy products there are lots of soy cheeses out there that are pretty good. Vegan Gourmet cheeses are the best but they're not widely available. I've tried the Veggie Slices and thought they were pretty good. They melted over my veggie burger too.

I wish I could find some good fake cheese too  They only have like 2 kinds of veggie cheese at the grocery store, one is Veggie Slices which is nasty, the other I didn't try yet. Right now I've settled on a lactose free cheese called Smart Beat, don't eat it very often though.
