What veg friendly shaving products are available?
I've never liked shaving creams/gels (Skintimate, Aveeno, etc.) - my skin always breaks out in red bumps; so I've always used cheap conditioner (Suave).
Now that I'm switching to cruelty-free products I'm not sure what's available and I don't want to use my expensive conditioner to shave with.
What do YOU use? Any suggestions?

kiss my face has some shaving foam/cream thingies they call moisture shave (http://www.kissmyfacewebstore.com/list/KMFSHAVE/ALL). i just tried one this week- the vanilla earth one- i got the smaller $3.99 4oz toothpaste type tube. its really not bad at all- its kinda like conditioner really- creamy and emolienty- its got a little foam to it, but its not drying and excessively foamy like the aerosol stuff tends to feel to me, and you only need a little bit so it'll last pretty well.
i think i'll probably get a different flavour next time- this one was a little earthy for me (maybe i shoulda guessed from the name, hehehe), but overall, i've found it to be a pretty decent product for the price.
method (http://www.methodhome.com/products.php?cat=type&type=hand_body&prod=bloq_shave_cream) also does some shave creams which look like a pretty similar product, just in trendier packaging. i haven't tried this one, but i have one of their moisturisers and it aint bad at all, so it might be worth a look too.

Hmmm. I think I'll try the Kiss My Face stuff. I'm a new vegetarian (about 2 months) but leaning more towards going vegan - most of Kiss My Face's stuff is vegan so I might just go with that.
I know Method is supposed to be earth-friendly... any idea if they're vegan friendly?

I have yet to find a vegan/cruelty free shaving cream that I'm satisfied with, that is lathers well like a Barbasol-type deal (yeah I used Man-Shaving Cream...and a Man-Razor too :p ) and sticks to my skin until I actually shave.
I have used Kiss My Face and it washed off as soon as my leg got wet (I shave in the shower) and I'm now using an Alba Organics foam-type cream that does the same thing (washes off before the razor even hits my leg). It smells pretty good though.
And so the search continues for vegan toiletries that actually work.....

I like Nivea for Men, but I'm not sure of the vegan-osity. It's not tested.

I bought Kiss My Face moisture shave, which I decided is a little too thin for my liking. It's convenient for traveling, however, because it's easier to put it into a 4 oz container than the really foamy kind like Skintimate. It works okay, otherwise, so I'd recommend it if you're looking for cruelty-free.

I've been using pine tar soap. Here's one place you can get it: http://www.grandpabrands.com I just picked it up from the HFS and it's been working well for me.

I've used Paul Mitchell The Conditioner for over 10 years to shave/moisturize/condition. It's vegan and non-animal tested.
I won't ever use anything else.

Hmmm. I think I'll look for whatever I can get more of for less. I don't care if lathers - I just need something smooth and slick to shave with! I go through a lot of it so I don't want to spend too much.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I just splash water on my face and go for it.... If I'm feeling really fancy, I'll use a little bar soap... If I'm in a hurry, I won't even bother with the water...

Ahh! I couldn't do that. Especially not dry shaving. I think I've done that once in my life and totally regretted it. Itchy, red & bumpy legs. Not pretty!
I went to Wild Oats/Whole Foods tonight and browsed. They have quite a few vegan shaving products. I ended up buying Alba Moisturizing cream shave in mango vanilla. It smells good and not too fruity. I haven't tried it yet.

 And that doesn't hurt like hell? Do you get razor burn?

Not at all! I have VERY soft facial hair, and I never really have to fuss with it much... a little water is more than sufficient, and dry shaving is no problem, if it's not too long.... If it's kinda shaggy, I'll usually use my clippers first to get rid of the long stuff, then finish with a regular twin-blade disposable...

I used to shave my head and have tried everything. The absolutely BEST product is Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, either the liquid or bar. It is nothing more then an assortment of organic oils. I use it to shave, shower and it can even be used in the laundry amoung other uses.

i have tried many many different ones and they all seem about the same, right now i think i have kiss my face and alba organics, for me i have to keep switching back and forth or my face gets torn up, they all work good just not great, jason stuff is pretty good too, very hard to believe you shave without water and without any kind of lube on your face, i wont believe that till i see it, i have to do it in the shower and always use some kind of facial lube and still i get messed up, i hate shaving and hate facial hair, go figure

Plain ol' soap. I use Trader Joe's natural soaps (Tea Tree and such). I used to use regular shaving cream and I ended up with massive bumps and burns. With soap, as long as I lather, I have no problems whatsoever. Saves money and keeps the shower clear of extra stuff :)
