Anyway if the bugs are outside it's best to let them be. Exept if it's a Black widow, Smash the bloodsuckin tradin poisonin ejecting b****. Buuuut if you are inside your home and have children and pets n stuff and don't want any moquitos with the nyle disease/lyme disease/aids and all this kinda bacteria kill em. I have my handy fly squasher close to me. AlWAYS.

I used to be a spider killer because I am really afraid of spiders but in the past couple years I have just asked SOMEONE ElSE to put the spidersoutside away from my room and the shower (where the spiders like to hang out, also where I hate them to be) The only bugs I ever occasiopnally kill are mosquitos but only when I find the m sucking my blood. I fi see a mosquito flying around my head ijust kinda swat it away but i dont kill it.

There was also a big controversy last year at school because there was a large spider in one of the classrooms and a tudent offered to bring the pider outside the teacher refused to let her and innstead stomped on the spider

I get quite a few bugs in my room in the warm weather. Mostly they're ants and ladybugs. Usually all I do is push them off my bed/arm/general area. Wasps and bees and stuff, I walk away from if outside, and get an adult to deal with if inside.

Also, my bedroom windows are the kind that open from the side outward, like a book cover. I get a whole menagerie of moths and other bugs around them at night, because I leave the windows open then to let in the cooler air. On the same token I close them during the day and can't persuade some of the bugs to get off the screen, so a few of them get trapped. I try to make sure they're gone before I close the widnow, though. They make an awful racket with their wings against the screen. Well, maybe not an "awful racket."

I just can't stand spiders, though. *shudder*

I agree, I think bugs deserve to live just as well as any animal. There was a huge spider in the bathtub, and my mom put him down the drain, and plugged it. The next day, he was back in the tub. HAHA.

I was so proud that my brother told her not to. I'm training him well. hoho.:D

I saved a beetle that fell into a bowl of water as I was doing the dishes. I scooped him up with a spoon and let him outside. :)

My mother thought I was crazy. heh.

I agree with asha. It's not right to kill another living thing, especially if they're small and helpless. Whenever there are insects in my house we let them go outside.

If I find a bug inside my house I will catch it and put it outside. All beings serve a purpose in our ecosystem so killing them would disrupt the balance.

Unfortuately my job requires me to kill insects. I work in an insect ecology laboratory and one of my main projects is research on mosquitoes. It does bother me that these lab reared insects have only one purpose, research. But I certainly can't release 1000's of mosquitoes into the wild if they didn't come from there in the first place.

It's sort of a catch 22. My lab tries to find natural, non-chemical, non-insecticidal methods of controlling insects but the process requires killing the insects in order to get results. So technically my research is to benefit human, insects, and the environment. I figure that although I have to kill insects in the lab, at least I will be saving the lives of those in the wild and also protecting the environment from harmful chemicals.

I try not to kill anything for they are worthy of life just as I am. I feel for them though when others kill them and I always speak up. It is wrong to kill whether it be bugs,mice,bird,batts,the handicap or a Human BABY whats even more disturbing is that people kill them out of pure convenice. Respect for life and the golden rule should always be applied under any circumstance. It is absolutly amazing how such a little thing, such as a fly can cause such an uproar and fury in people. I will continue to do my part and feel the pain of every life taken at the hands of our collapsing humanity

I have probaly killed thousands of mosquitos. I will take spiders out of the room- show bees to the door. But living in west Africa for 4 months was a different story. Baring in mind malaria is the biggest killer out there and is spread by the mossies - I wasn't going to put up with them.

I stayed in a dodgy but friendly backpackers hotel and every morning when I got up for my shower there would be 30 plus mossies flying in the bathroom. A quick blast of some very nasty african bought spray and 10 minutes later they would mostly be dead. Also killing them with your hands by clapping worked. If you had blood on your hands you know you were bitten. I remember my friend counting the amount of mossie bites she had and it cames to over 300. I never bothered counting mine. I didn't like using that glue stuff- as a lizzard got stuck in it. Managed to free him- but he couldn't walk afterwards. I named him- but someone decided to take the matter into their own hands and end its suffering.

In another part there where these nasty ones that we barely noticed and then suddenly myself and one of the lads noticed that we were bleeding- only small amounts but in several places. Never liked them flys either.

When there are only a few creepy crawlies I am fine- usually leave them too it. Though I hate daddy long legs- as they look like giant mosquitos.

I think all Animals should have the right to life. The only Animals I don't exactly get along with are Spiders and those big Roaches...just something about them. I don't kill them because I'm too scared of them. When I see them I get a big cup and trap them in and put them outside. Mosquitoes, Flies and Ants don't really bother me. I love company. I mean they are so small and innocent. They can't help God created them so small and annoying. I don't see a difference in my Dog and a Ant. Both are special in my eyes.

i have something that i would like opinions on...it's been bothering me...

once in a while a cricket will get in my house and my cat will find it. being a cat, he doesn't just kill the cricket and eat it or leave it be. he smashes it around and plays with it.

what is the best thing to do when i find him leisurely toying with a cricket? most of the time the cricket is intact and moving around but missing a leg or something so that it can't hop anymore. should i put it outside or smash it? it is painful for me to watch a creature suffer, but i also don't want to kill it if it has a chance at living.

i guess i just don't know which is more humane because i don't know what a cricket's chances of surviving are if it is missing a couple of legs.

I would let it out and let nature take its course, myself. I have never had a cat myself- but I rented a room from someone who had a cat- it never used to bring anything until one day it brought back a koi. Then suddenly loads of mice and baby birds. The scariest being a frog- i assumed was dead- and then it sprung to life and started jumping everywhere- so then we released it in a neighbours garden who had a pond.

kat, that is what i have been doing...just getting the cat away from it and putting it in the backyard. i've just been wondering if this is the most humane thing to do.

i'm so glad my cat doesn't actually catch things like birds or lizards. :eek: he just paws at the crickets that get in the house.

I used to have a cat that would catch mice and play with them before finally killing it. I've also seen other cats do it. It's just what cats do. Sure it's not exactly very nice of the cat to do but it's their nature, otherwise they wouldn't do it.

As far as the cricket goes, losing a leg isn't a big deal. In fact it is a defense mechanism for an insect to easily lose it's limbs. Those legs can pop off with the slightest pull and don't hurt them any. This allows the insect to get away from a predator. The predator grabs the leg, the leg comes off, and the insect can get away. Granted, a cricket can't move away as easily if it's missing limbs but it still has a fighting chance. Also if the cricket is not an adult, meaning it hasn't fully formed wings yet, it can regenerate new legs by the next time it molts. The insect will just be more vulnerable until it molts.
