What toothpaste do you all who are vegan use?
I'm need to order some new stuff soon and I was going to try to find a good vegan toothpaste. The kind I have now (can't remember the name, I'd have to go look at it) just taste absolutely disgusting.

Also, I order from www.luckyvitamin.com so if it was a brand that was on that site it would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks so much for your recommendations!

The only readily available and reasonably priced vegan toothpaste that I have seen is Tom's of Maine. Target carries the Tom's of Maine brand (toothpaste and deodorant).

Seconding Tom's of Maine.

Or ... you could just use baking soda or brush with nothing, then swish with a fluoride mouthwash (if you like fluoride - I know some people don't). This is actually what my dentist suggested recently.

Tom's of Maine I can get on luckyvitamin so that works...but I think first I'm going to try the Trader Joe option, I love TJs!

I use Nature's Gate. I'm picky about the taste of toothpastes, but I like their Cool Mint Gel. I've also used Kiss my Face gel.

Tom's of Maine is now owned by an animal-testing company (Unilever, I think?) Also, some of their toothpastes have propolis in them.

We've Kingfisher in our house as well, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it Stateside.

I liked Nature's Gate, but had a hard time finding the mint gel for some reason, so in the olden days, I generally used Tom's because it was readily available.

I am going to have to check out this Trader Joe's. I've seen it in other posts here, and I didn't even know I live smack dab in between two Trader Joe's!!! I will have to try to visit that place.

We use Weleda and Jason.

Most toothpaste has sodium laureth sulfate as do many shampoos. I stay away from the ones that do.

I use Auromere(sp?). Dessert Essence has toothpaste, but I'm not sure if it's veg or not. Their shampoo is.

Forgive me for being uninformed and lazy, but where does sodium laureth sulfate come from?

coconuts. its not non-veg*n, but its quite a strong surfectant, to not really ideal for people with sensitive skin. there are quite a few people who beleive that its also carcenogenic- though the FDA says its not, and so does the American Cancer Society.

It's a little more expensive but I got turned on it as bleeding gums toothpaste (www.cuprident.com/gumprob.php) and it's not only all natural but it's the best toothpaste I've ever used.

This looks like it would be perfect for me, as I do have periodontal disease. Though $15.00 for a 4.5oz tube of toothpaste is scary

Jason makes great tooth gel. It's all vegan and it foams so much that you only need a tiny bit so one tube lasts you a long time.

Just to let you know, if you try to avoid using products tested on animals or companies who test on animals....Tom's of Maine sold out to Colgate a few years ago...so I don't buy Tom's products anymore.
I've tried different brands and even made my own for a while...now I use Jason's, I am quite happy with it. Ting!

Can anyone suggest a toothpaste that would safe for whitening? I've started using backing soda when I brush in the morning and at night, but I'm not sure how long that takes to make a difference. thanks!

i bought tom's of maine recently and don't think i'll buy it again. i don't like the aftertaste it leaves, and it doesn't make my mouth feel very fresh. i'm not vegan, i'm vegetarian, i just want a product that's made by a company that doesn't support animal testing. does anyone know of any readily available toothpastes that are ok animal testing wise?

I use Dr. Ken's. They make a toothpaste with fluoride, which is pretty rare for vegan toothpastes. I like fluoride in my toothpaste because I find it makes my teeth whiter and less sensitive.

I do use fluoride-free toothpastes when I can't get a fluoride kind or if that particular store has a sale on another brand. I really like Nature's Gate for a fluoride-free toothpaste. It's yummy.
