Saturday 15th December is v
VIVA!s NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST FOIE GRAS (http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/foiegras/doa.html)

We are also marking this event with a weekend long demo outside The Blue Bicycle in York , who placed foie gras on the menu in a public display to spite the York council ban and Animal Rights campaigners and in favour of force feeding animals.

We really need as many people to turn up as possible for this as it has been put in local press and had the support from the local police who have said they will close off the road for us if we want it done. If enough people turn up this will happen and it also means no customers for the foie gras sellers either.

Wkend of action in York against Foie Gras restaurant.
Friday 14th December 7pm

Saturday 15th December 12-2:30pm & 6-9:30pm.

Sunday 12-2:30pm.

See our website www.yafa.co.uk

Can you help? Also

Please contact the 'Blue Bicycle' restaurant to express your disgust and horror that they still sell foie gras and ask that they drop it from their menu.

O.K. just added the National day of action to my phone reminders and gonna contact viva for the materials now. Come on everyone, get involved!

EDIT: Just realised, I need a specific place to be leafletting outside. Does anywhere in Manchester/Salford even sell foie gras?

Please explain to me, if the Council in York has banned Fois Gras, how is this restaurant still allowed to sell it? Are they not contravening laws etc?

Why has the Council not taken action?

i think that the ban was just for council run buildings, not a law that covered other property.

The ban only covers council buildings, not resturants.
The ban though has set the ball rolling , so to speak, on at least 3 other councils in the UK to do the same and more are thinking of doing the same.

This ban will also help put pressure on the UK goverment to hopefully push for a ban on the sale of foie gras. Currently due to EU laws this is not possible but The Treaty of Rome which the campaign is using states that if enough public pressure and opposition to something is voiced by enough people than it can be banned. Or something like that anyway.

And anyway, we the public are the voice, EU laws are not set in stone, so if enough of us voice our opposition to foie gras than maybe the UK gov and maybe the EU will realise the terrible way foie gras is made and ban it.

We can hope and demand I guess

THE BLUE BICYCLE hiding themselves away from their shame:

Just as YAFA members were turning up this lunch time , they arrived just as The Blue Bicycle staff were putting up blinds in their windows to hide themselves away from the shame The Blue Bicycle brought upon themselves by placing foie gras on their menu just recently.
More and more people turned their backs on the restaurant once they learned the truth ,while other restaurants surrounding them still like every other day enjoyed a thriving business , while The Blue Bicycle had to stand and watch as more and more people turned away from them. Maybe the curtains were put up because they cant bare to watch any longer the dozens upon dozens of people turning their backs on them!!!

BLUE BICYCLE- you can hide behind these new blinds, but you cannot hide from the truth forever. Drop foie gras before you loose yet more money!
