Yeah, I just noticed last week that there is some chili that's vegan at our local shop. Now, I just make my own chili, but still, it was cool to see the grab and go option there.

I like the sausages. :lick:

Where are the sausage rolls? Am I blind or are they not there? :worried:

They've "improved" their range, so I'm guessing the sausage rolls don't exist any more.

They have the country pies though, and they're listed as vegan friendly! And they're sold at Sainsbury's, which is near me!

Where are the sausage rolls?

i spose you could always buy the sausages and suffocate them in some ready rolled puff pastry.

those sausage rolls always weirded me out- they were too realistic. i was really quite scared of the country pies for the same reason. much prefered home made sosmix (http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/421362.html) ones. mmmm... sosmix... its reconstitutable gravel/mush of the gods.

woah woah! the sausages are nothing like the sausage"meat" in the sausage rolls :( :(

I am quite partial to Linda's sausages and Deep Country Pies. I will have to look out for the bean burgers and chili non carne!

I've only had the sausage rolls once, before I was vegan. A little too salty for me I felt.

yeah it's quite cool that the chilli is now vegan considering it used to be vegan except for the cheese sprinkled on the top and I was CONSTANTLY picking it up and going "just leave to cheese off! why can't they just leave the cheese off?!" to myself.
I like the sausages. And the pies. I used to like the pies a lot more before they changed the recipe, they taste more "posh" now I think - more of spices etc, and less of gravy.

I like the new recipe pies actually, richer in flavour. I think they add red wine now?

I do limit myself though, as I'm aware they're not the healthiest food ever :)

like I said ... posh!
and yeah :worried: I once looked at the amount of fat in them and ranted about it for days :sealed: I don't look any more

her sausages are the only fake meat i buy.
theyre great for wanting 'real' food but cant be arsed to cook. Sausage Sandwich! Im a lazy student that counts as real food, haha.

why did they posh up all the packaging?!
the old stuff was fine. and the sausages arent microwave friendly any more =(

and WHERE ARE THE SAUSAGE ROLLS?!
Lucky my mum bought like, 4 packets that are still in the freezer (I hope, someone prolly got hungry)
I dont buy them often
but for like, picnics/parties stuff theyre brilliant

I bought them along to my friends beach picnic in July, and all my omni friends ate them and said they were better than real sausage rolls cause they had no gristle in
(I said to my mum they were good, which is why she bought so many - haha)

edit: oh yeah, and the websites crap! I want information, not really confusing "where the hell do i click" slowly fading in pictures

Off topic but worth mentioning ((I think))::

I heard somewhere (on the radio, prehaps) that Linda McCartney has sold more vegetarian frozen meals than her husband has sold records.
I found that amusing.

But they're MEANT to be realistic - fake meat stuff is for people who miss the taste of the real meat stuff but don't wanna wreck their ethics by buying it. And I LOVED them and am so glad I can buy em again! Mmm, country pie, pease, and carrots with mash and bread... that'd be delicious!

Ah shame, not suitable for certain religious people then. And define 'healthy' :p

Some people need more fat in their diets.

oh, i totally get that they're meant to be realistic, i didn't think it was accidental that the taste is so close. its great that you and loads of others like them for it, but they are just a little tooo close for me personally.

maybe its a different issue for me, as while i appreciate the textures, flavours and aromas of some veggieburgers and veggie sausages, i associate the exact taste of meat with a frightening swelling of my throat, so eating some stuff makes me automatically think 'omg i'm gonna die', and start panicking, before the rational part of my brain that knows its just tvp kicks in, lol. *shrugs*

each to their own, i spose- i have a few veggie friends who can't eat some products cos they're just tooo close and it weirds them out, too. my brother likes the sausages... i don't think he's ever had a real one to compare it with though... hmmm.

i wasn't trying to start an argument or anything- sorry if it came off that way.

Nah, didn't seem like you was trying to start to start an argument. Sorry if I made it seem like I thought you were.

I took one look at the box of the meat pies and decided i didnt want them!
dispite the fact i never ate meat pies, or liked them or gravy my mum bought me some. i think my dad ate them under the impression they were real, haha

they look freakishly real, as for taste i'll NEVER know

I like the new sophisticated packaging, I'm sure it will attract more consumers who like decent food. The old red packaging wasn't very appealing.

'Healthy' food I would define as being free from unhealthy fats and refined carbohydrate for a start, as well as low in salt.

On the rare occasion I buy a veggie sausage roll, I find the best ones by far are Holland and Barrett's - delicious!

Ah but some people need more fat in their diet - and too little salt is bad for the brain.

Its easier to add salt than take it away!

Sausage and spinach sarnies are the way to go!
I was inspired by this thread to get some sausages! Tescos didn't have any spinach today though =(
I had to get "finest mixed leafy green veg washed in spring water" wtf. who CARES what your bloody veg is washed in?! Thats what I get for going at 7pm when it closes at 8 - empty groceries bit!
also most of thier meatfree stuff was reduced to clear, eep! I only buy the mexican bean burgers (Which werent on sale grr) but looks like theyre binning the range. There was loads more linda stuff than usual though, so maybe theyre replacing it with that (and also keeps the thread on topic haha)

Linda sausages :spew: they have the texture of tuna in a crispy outer coating. I love the pies and sausage rolls, I want to try the cornish pasties. I can never cook the pies properly, I don't know why.
