View Full Version : Need Face Moisturizer Recommendation ASAP

So here's my dilemma...
I've been using Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 for a few years now. Unfortunately, this company tests on animals. I'm at the end of this bottle and need a good recommendation ASAP. I need something that I can find locally that won't cost a small fortune, preferrably with SPF and that won't irritate my skin. I saw some "Kiss My Face" products at Trader Joe's, but don't know if they're pore clogging. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Kiss My Face (especially the Obsessively Organic line), Alba Organics, Avalon Organics, Zia and Nature's Gate all have great products. For value and price, I would go with Kiss My Face or Alba (especially the Hawaiian line).

Are all KMF lotions okay for sensitive skin? Regardless of the name of the product, I thought the products I saw were body lotions. Most body lotions are too thick for the face, clog pores. I didn't get to read the backs of the lotions at TJ, I'll do that when I go next :) Now that I'm actually at their site, it seems like all of their products are safe for the face. I'm really hoping that TJ has the Kiss My Face Natural Moisturizer Everyday SPF 15. I'll check maybe tomorrow morning. It's saturday... TJ is CRAZY on the weekends (less so on sunday when people are at church).
Thanks!

You obviously would want to buy a facial product for the face and a body product for the body and so on, for the reasons you mentioned. A specially formulated product works best on the area it was formulated for. :)

Gotcha :) I always make sure I read a label top to bottom before I buy.
Besides Trader Joe's, anyone know where I can buy Kiss My Face products? I'm pretty sure Henry's carries it, but I'm POSITIVE if they do, it's twice the price. That all day creme looks awesome, but I know they don't have it at TJ.

I bought this: http://www.kissmyfacewebstore.com/detail/KMF+200PC+16oz/Peaches_Crandegrave;me_Moisturizer
It was the only lotion Trader Joe's had for face. I will keep an eye out for something better, but until I find it, I'll use this :) I may be going to Henry's soon, I'm sure they'll have all KMF products. :)

Though I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it, in a pinch I've used KMF body lotion on my face before and had no problems (and I've had issues with other moisturizers clogging my pores). I think their products are just that gentle. :D

I'm in the same boat, I've used Oil of Olay SPF 15 moisturizer for years. I want to find something that doesn't test on animals and doesn't clog my pores. I think I'm going to try a Kiss My Face products when this bottle runs out.

I use Beauty Without Cruelty Facial Moisturizer. They have a few different formulations but the only one I've tried is the Daily Lotion with SPF 15 and I love it. It's fairly inexpensive too.
On a side note, I also use their facial cleansers which I also like a lot.
I have found BWC products at my local HFS and Whole Foods.

Ahhh! Halloween colors!
I went to CVS and found a TON of cruelty-free products... but only 2 of which were face moisturizers. One was Be Fine which as $20 for about 2 ounces and the other was... I can't remember... either Alba or Jason... but it was $15 for about 3 ounces. I honestly can't afford that. :( I'm going to keep searching... maybe I can use the body/face KMF temporarly until I can find facial moisturizer with SPF.

The BWC facial moisturizer costs about $9 for a 4 oz bottle, which I think is reasonably priced. I highly recommend it. :)

Sorry, I read your first post but forgot to reply. I don't have a WFM nearby :( I think HFS are usually twice the price too. I'll definately check though next time I'm near one :)

Have you considered going to your hfs and getting pure almond or jojoba oil and using a drop or two as moisturizer? it can be expensive upfront, but it lasts forever.

^ That actually works really well to balance out oily skin, believe it or not. I suggest jojoba over almond. It's great in your hair as well, a few drops applied to the end when it's still damp.

I'll check into that... I really do need something with SPF though.. I'm super duper fair and even a slight tan or burn brings out my freckles more and does permenant damage.

Has anyone used Burt's Bees facial moisturizer?

Problem - I can't use the Kiss my Face lotion on bought on my face. It made me break out bad.
I seriously may have to buy 1 more container of Cetaphil if the health food stores don't have what I'm looking for. I may end up having to order a cruelty-free product online when I get money.

Did you buy a KMF facial product? Did you apply it after washing your face, with clean hands? Sometimes people can start to break out when they transition from using products with parabens and SLS to ones that have none.

Most of their products aren't vegan so I don't use them. They are pretty natural though!

It was a product for both face and body (was supposed to be a temp fix). Yes, I applied it with clean hands. I know it was the moisturizer because my pill keeps my face clear. I woke up with some breakouts. I think it's just too thick and soap-like.... doesn't rub in right. I'm going to 2 HFS within the next few days to see if I can find the one specifically for face with SPF. I wish Cetaphil was cruelty-free... it's the best product I've found yet.

I would never use a "one size fits all" product on my face. The molecular structure in a general product tends to be too large for the face and can lay on top of the skin, causing an issue IF there was bacteria there to begin with. Had you just washed your face before applying? If you had not, think about it this way...bacteria, oil, debris on the face was covered by a thick layer of a product that cannot penetrate the skin. That results in a reaction, almost every time.
