I sent a quick email to the makers of the hair-detangling spray I just started using, to check that it's vegan and that they don't animal-test. They wrote me back saying that they are working to eliminate animal testing, i.e. they do test, the feckers. So what's the best thing to say when I email them back to tell them I'm not going to buy their product anymore? Suggestions welcome as I am not very articulate. Thanks.

how about saying something like:
"thanks for letting me know the situation. please do put a clear label onto your product when you have eliminated animal testing and the use of animal ingredients, so that folks like myself know that your product is humane, and appropriate for us to buy."

The above suggestion is a good one.
I normally don't bother to be so polite. I just write something like "Thank you for letting me know that you participate in the torture of animals. I will not be buying your product anymore, and will ask my friends and acquaintances to join me. As there are companies who have successfully managed to stop participating in the abuse of animals for products such as yours, I wonder what is taking you so long. Yours not very respectfully, (signature)"

Thank you both very much for your help. I have emailed the company and been as assertive as I could, based on your suggestions. I will also ask my local chemist to stop stocking their products.
Cheers!
