i used to use pantene and for obvious reasons i dont any longer... but my hair has never been the same :(
i guess i need something loaded up with chemicals and silicones and whatnot... i've tried alot of vegan conditioners that are full of natural oils and nice things, but trying to get a comb through my hair after has been laughable.
is there anything vegan or at least not tested on animals that has ingredients similiar to pantene?
thanks in advance!

I love Giovanni. They are the only products I have in my shower regularly, and I have used them all. The "Magnetic" formulas are good for dry and delicate hair.

It's quite possible that once the chemicals and silicones and whatnot come out of your hair, you will not need them anymore. They tend to make things sticky and annoying for a week (or quite a few weeks, depending on how much they were used). I used to only use Pantene too. Now I make my own clay hair product, and only need it once a week. My hair feels the same as when I used to use all those chemicals, but now it doesn't get oily as fast. And on occasion if I use a natural shampoo or conditioner, that works too. They didn't use to work when I was also using Pantene products. Plus there's the peace of mind of knowing that I'm not feeding all of those chemicals back into the environment anymore. Good luck in your search, whatever you choose!

Interesting! Would you care to share your recipe for your product please? :)

:) Sure. I've only made one batch. It made around 2 cups, and I don't use much, so I'm still using it up. I'll be making a couple of changes next time I make it.
Here's what I did last time:
Put 1/2 cup chopped fresh rosemary and 1/8-ish cup dried chamomile in 1 1/2 cups boiling water, and let steep for 30 minutes. (You may want to open a window - it smells good, but strong!)
Strain and add to bowl for mixing.
Add 20 (yeah, I overdid it) drops lavender EO, and whatever other EOs you want for their scent. Add Rhassoul clay (I'm pretty sure this is the type Terressentials uses) until the mixture is the consistency you want. I left mine runny.
Add 1-2 tsps of nettle leaf powder.
Stir until all of this is well mixed. The clay will want to stay lumpy. Don't let it.
Put in amber glass bottle and store for at least a day before you use it. I used this time to oil my hair for a conditioning treatment. When you're ready to use it, wet your hair, work it in, and go about the rest of your shower-y business. Then rinse off.
So, changes for next time: Like I said, I overdid it on lavender oil. I'm new to EOs, so I didn't realize this until I mixed it all up and could smell it from a few feet away. I'd also like to try a 50/50 water/aloe vera juice mixture in place of the water I used. Unfortunately, aloe is expensive, at least in my store. Rhassoul clay is also pretty expensive compared to bentonite, but I'm not sure how the two compare in how they work on hair.
Other notes: I bought most of the ingredients on mountainroseherbs.com. And again, you might have to use this a few times before your hair is manageable if you have used a product with silicone ingredients recently. But right now, this once a week makes my long hair bouncy and shiny and soft.

willowriver, thank you! i'm all about experimenting with natural stuff for body/hair and my hair is down to my tailbone right now and i've really wanted to try the clay stuff.
eta: with the aloe... what about getting an aloe plant and just cutting off what you need? or at least getting a leaf or two to start out.

weird! there was a reply from someone in my email inbox that says it was from this thread, but it's not here  oh well... yeah i have tried going off silicones and i cant. i am looking for something similiar to pantene, not recommendations for anything natural or homemade, although i apprecaite your efforts very much, i just need something else :)
if anyone knows, please let me know!

have you tried adding water to the pantene and weaning yourself off of the silicones? or mixing it with a shampoo that doesn't have cones and weaning off of it that way.

pureology is my fave try the moisture one. they are costly, but a lot of times if you find an upscale salon they will give you a product guarantee (we do) so really no risk. i haven't met anyone who didn't love it!

Victoria's Secret So Sexy doesn't test, but I don't think it's vegan (silk). It's my favorite.
I have a Jason Natural Cosmetics Conditioner that's actually loaded with -cones though. I don't remember which one at the moment. I'm not sure about -cones in Paul Mitchell products, but those are all vegan.
<<<owns way too many bottles of shampoo and conditioner

cissy - if i could justify four different types of shampoo and conditioner in my bathroom, i would have too many too. Sometimes I want volume, sometimes I want curls..

Dude! Paul Mitchell is vegan?! What rock have I been under? That makes me unbelievably happy! What a wonderful excuse to spend a little extra on one of my favorite lines of products. Today just got a little brighter.... thanx :)

Hey! I don't know where you live, but I'm in the UK and I've recently started using Original Source products for shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. This is the link to their animal testing policy http://www.originalsource.co.uk/know_more/?p=at
They also list all the products on that website, and as far as I know they are meant to be big on "natural ingredients" :) I really like the products too, they work well for me.

I think Avalon Organics conditioners have dimethicone in them now. The shampoos do not. Giovanni's Smooth As Silk shampoo and conditioner have dimethicone in them as well:)

I love Giovanni's tea tree shampoo and conditioner, they make my hair soft and shiny. I've tried quite a few of the more natural brands of shampoo but they don't seem to work well on my hair.

I started using original source, cause i was getting sick of lush stuff (my hair never felt newly washed) and GOD my hair feels good! [swooshes it around]
shame the almond+coconut smelt nice in the shop, but in the shower it smells like hamster food haha. i had to get pear+avocado conditioner too 'cause they didnt have matching ones!
but yeah
if it exists yonder the pond i think thats a nice compromise between 'natural' and all the synthetic stuff.
its not one of these "Natural" (read: lush/naked) products that make your hair feel like crap, ive tried to use enough of them! that naked one was horrible, my hair just... ew. it still feels liek youre using 'real' shampoo

Original Source is the best! I love the pear and avocado shampoo - I used it 10 minutes ago :smitten:

I second that! It's my favorite too and makes the shower smell OH SO GOOD. You can get 3 haircare products for $21, which isn't bad at all. I found that you only use a tiny bit of the hair washing products, not like some brands where you fill your palm halfway. I also have Bath and Body Works brand that works pretty well. :)
My Mom gave me a HUGE bottle of conditioner and I've been trying to use it up for about 6 months now. This whole time I thought it was tested on animals, but it's not. :) I've been using it with the Trader Joe's shampoo... the conditioner is HORRIBLE and tangles my hair.
