I live in a housing association flat(apartment) and the tenancy agreement say that I can have animals like hamsters, guineapigs or goldfish etc but no cats, dogs, goats etc.
I would prefer a cat really.
I don't have any pets at the moment.
So what does your housing situation allow for in the way of pets?
eta: I did want to put a poll on this thread but I forgot to tick the poll box.....bread DOH!

As many as we want. My parents own a large house and we live in some of it and rent the rest out. The people who rent here arent allowed any pets though. We have 1 dog, 1 cat and 2 rabbits (all mine :)).

No pets that live outside of a tank in my residence hall (I think the agreement says only fish, but I've seen people with hermit crabs and no one cared). I don't keep any pets here. It seems like it would be too much of a hassle to transport a fish tank three and a half hours from here to home for breaks.
At home, there are no limits. We have a rooster, and Amazon parrot, and a dog. At various points in our lives we've also had hens, a cat, rabbits, lizards, fish, hermit crabs, a hamster, and a mouse. I think I'd have a difficult time living permanently in a place where I couldn't have a cat or dog.

Technically none.
Somehow I find myself with 4 dogs, 2 cats, and 18 rats. Oh, and 3 fishtanks.
We have always had at least a dog, and basically if no one complains, its fine. I make sure the cats stay inside, the dogs are only outside when they are supervised and they don't bark or dig holes or anything.

It was the same deal when I was in college. Well, that was the policy, but students had guinea pigs, cats, dogs, and one student even had a snake. One of my friends joked that he was going to buy a dog and name it "Non-aggressive Fish".

We can have pretty much whatever we want, we have 2 dogs right now. We want to move but are finding it hard to find a place that will let us have our dogs. So will be staying here till we do.

I moved into a townhouse with three other people already living there. One roommate already had three cats from a previous relationship. I get to be around cats, so I'm happy.
However, in the past seven months, the cats seem to have picked me as their new owner. I feed and water them and I now have food and water dishes and a litter box in my bedroom. My roommate has the same dishes and box in her room, but the cats seem to play in my room a whole lot more.
I don't know why, but I can hazard a few guesses. I check on the cats' food and water every morning before I go to work and every afternoon. I clean out their litterbox once a day and completely replace the litter once or twice a week. I keep my room somewhat neat. I also buy cat toys every now and again.
My roommate is the complete opposite. Her room is a frickin' mess. The litter box doesn't get cleaned very often (the male cat is very finicky about this) and she's left the cats without water or food some days. Even one of my friends has noticed how often I take care of these cats.
I mentioned a little bit of the above rant to said roommate and she said that I'm welcome to take care of the cats, but it's not her fault if she doesn't get to the cats as fast as I do. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "Uh, they're your cats. You should take care of them."
I really don't mind taking of the cats. I'm afraid if I don't do it, they're not going to get taken care of.
END RANT
So, be warned, if you move in with animals who aren't yours, they might become yours. :)

Technically none. But I have a big fat cat anyway. Where I live it's actually illegal for landlord to specify no pets. They do it all the time anyway, but there aren't any consequences if you ignore it.

I live in an apartment complex. Pets are permitted, but you have to pay a pet deposit before moving in.
We currently have 3 cats, 2 55 gallon aquariums, a 20 gallon aquarium, and a 10 gallon aquarium.

beatricious, where do you live? That sounds awesome!
Our lease doesn't say anything about having no pets. I've heard the landlord say "no dogs or cats" over the phone to someone, but I'm wondering if that was grandfathered because at least 2 people have 1+ cats and I think one person has a yorkie? May be someone who lives nearby, but I think I've heard a neighbour say she lives here. Hm. Oh well. Unless I find a small dog who really needs a good home, I can live without one.
Lessee, I've got 6 freshwater tanks(going to be 5 soon, I'm moving the 20 into the 60) one is a 60 gallon community, 2 are 10 gallons divided in half with 2 bettas, one is a 5 gallon with a betta and the last is a 10 with a honey dwarf gourami. Then I've got a 10 gallon invert/coral only reef tank(hm. want a small fish, but I think I have a crab who would love to Eat said fish in there >_> so no fishies until I figure a way to keep the crabber happy and fed without eating my fish) Plus I've got a mouse and 4 rats. I'm also going to be getting a parakeet soon(have wanted one since I lost my last guy. . .) and some dart frogs. Though the frogs are going to be more because I've got some tropical plants that I want to put in a terrarium and think the frogs would be a neat addition to that.

We live in a house so..as many as you can take care of. We only have two dogs. Two big dogs...a Rotwieller and an American Pitbull Terrier/Roweiller mix(she is about as big as the Rotweiller). They both act like puppies even though the Roweiller is 9 years old...so they are alot of work.
When I was little we lived in an apartment...no cats and dogs no matter how small allowed. They allowed bunnies and hamsters...and the like..so we had a bunny. He lived inside and had a cage...but he only stayed in that when we were gone or sleeping. The rest of the time he was out and roamed the house. I tell you what though that was a lot of work. We had to put fish tank plastic hose around every single wire and tape it up on the wall and clean alot! He was litter box trained and everything so he was a great companion and a great answer to the no cat no dog rule...as we wanted a companion..that we could play and interact with.
Bunnies are very complicated though...more than most people ever thought. They require just as much if not more attention and understanding than a cat or dog. Wonderful companions if you do the work though.

When we rented, we were not allowed any pets. Most rentals in my town do not allow pets or if they do, there are restrictions and deposits. We now own our house so we can have whatever we want.:) We have Shady, the pitbull, and 4 cats.

Technically I'm not allowed any pets in my apartment. But I have one cat, a green cheek conure, a lovebird, 2 budgies, 2 beta fish and 12 crested geckos.

There is no mention of pets in our tenancy but the landlord knew we were bringing a male 1 year cat with us and also a hamster and two mice (whom have all just passed in the space of two months :( ) We now have two kittens who are 6months old and 10 tropical fish.
My boyfriend call's me the mad cat lady (from The Simpsons). Where I go the cats go. If I go to bed the cats come with me. One of the kittens often gets under the covers with me lol. I treat the cats like they are my children.

I'm lucky in that I own my own home so we can have whatever we want. Right now we have four cats....but my son is moving home at the end of the month and he has two cats that will be coming with him...I'm less than thrilled. But I don't have the heart to make him bring them back to the shelter.

I own my home, but city ordinances say we can only have up to four dogs and six cats. Egads! That'd be a zoo in my little place! I have one dog, one indoor cat and technically we still own two cats who ran away when we got the dog and will occasionally skulk across the backyard but won't come ANYWHERE near the house. I still get them vaccinated and licensed so they are "mine" even if they aren't in the house.
Actually according to city code, I could have 1 pygmy goat, a potbelly pig or up to 5 chickens (but no roosters) too! Who decides these things anyway?

When we rented our first apt, it was 2 cats or 1 dog max so we snuck two cats in durring the last 6 months of our residency so we didn't have to pay them anything (horrible place). The condo we rented next was great because the owner loved cats and let us have four with no fees and I was allowed to foster other cats as well. Monthly pet fees and pet deposits were extremely expensive where we lived (few hundred per pet) so we are lucky to have dodged that bullet.
Now that we own our house, we can do what ever we want. I am sure our city has laws regarding hoarding, but I don't know what they are. We have four cats (five if you count our neighbor's cat since we feed her and she sleeps on our deck/in our garage) and one dog right now and we want to get another dog soon. If I had more room, I'd definitely have more animals. I'd love to be able to foster/adopt on a larger scale.

we are allowed a maximum of 2 pets. dogs up to 100 pounds, though that may not be in our complex (the people above us have a doberman.. he looks to weigh more than me). There is a 150 dollar pet deposit for them, and 20 dollar a month fee for them when you have them.
We have two cats, Maggie and Dorian Gray (i call him Mr. Gray or Dorian, he's a gray kittie) and love them to death.

I'm in student accomodation so no pets
Next year I'm hoping to get something. I quite want a cat even though I'm allergic, but they're more company than caged pets and I don't know if I could find anywhere that would let me have a dog. Cats are so much more sneaky too, so I wouldn't necessarily need the landlord to allow it.

I would be careful about getting a cat Fona, as in my exerience student landlords can be really funny about having cats and dogs and are known to turn up out the blue to check on tenants.
When I lived in one of my student houses we had a hamster and a goldfish, but even the hamster was not allowed and we had to hide him whenever the landlord made an impromptu visit.
When I get my own place I intend to have cats, as I love them so much!

Cats and small pets (eg., parakeets) only, with paid deposit.
"Absolutely no dogs." is the wording on my tenant agreement. If someone has a dog they get kicked out. It's a shame, because my bf would like to adopt a dog someday.
It took me an incredible amount of time and frustration to find a rental place that would allow our two (fixed, litter-trained, indoor-only) cats. It is a small wonder why our area has such dismally high shelter surrender rates.

On our pet agreement it says no dogs over 100 pounds and all cats must be declawed. I do not agree with declawing in any shape or form so I asked the property manager. She said that declawing is something that they require in their other properties, but not the one we are in. I noted it on the pet agreement before we signed it.
we clip the cats' nails as regularly as possible. My boy, Dorian, likes to climb up my pantlegs to get to the kitchen countertops. it's cute.

We're allowed two pets per apartment (cats or dogs) with a $300 deposit and $20/month pet rent. I have two cats, as well as the iguana (property manager knows about him), a 75 gallon fish tank w/ 9 female bettas, 1 male betta, 9 black tetras, and 2 Pecos. I'm setting up a 10 gallon planted for 2-3 dwarf puffers right now :) .
According to the giant management company we're not allowed any exotics but I was assured igs wouldn't be a problem, and my neighbor has a large parrot of some kind he's always out and about with. Dogs are supposed to be under 40 lbs, but I've seen much much larger dogs around as well. The property owner is much more laid back about pets than the management company.
