and on the side of the jar it said "GREAT WITH FISH"!!!!???!!?????!!!!!!!!!!!
Vegan Pesto was the actual name of the product!
Why would they have something like that on the side of a vegan product???

well, plenty of people are avoiding dairy who aren't vegan. And vegan always means 'dairy free', whereas dairy-free stuff isn't always vegan, so it makes more sense from that perspective to label something vegan, to 'catch' both groups sorta thing.
Yeah, my soymilk often has recipes to make fish with a 'creamy' sauce on it :p

Hah - yeah, that's kind of jarring.
But it's not nonsensical. Many people live in households where different people follow different diets. It's nice to know if something like a sauce or condiment is vegan, even if omnis will be using it in conjuction with meat.

I buy Tofurkey sandwich slices, and the back of the package has a cream-cheese based "rollup" recipe. I always wondered about that.

As opposed to non-vegan pesto? that's funny: pesto is supposed to be made with basil, pinenuts, garlic and olive oil.

You're forgetting the parmesan.

Well, in Italy (where I am from) we add the parmesan AFTER the pasta is cooked and after you toss it with pesto. Pesto per se is without cheese.

I generally can't find commercial pesto without cheese.

I have also been unable to find cheese-free pesto. I always need to make it myself.
SupersonicSheep, where did you find the stuff?

I found it in a health food shop called Nourish. It's a chain but I think it's only in the UK and Ireland.
I did try making it myself but sometimes it's a bit of a pain and you just want to grab a jar of the stuff.

Thanks. I've never seen that chain so it probably isn't available in the states.
And I know exactly what you mean...
