So I arrived home last night and found that my home had been burglarized. They forced open the back sliding glass door, off its track, and stole a number of items. But eveything is replaceable except for my albino corn snake, Adam. They took him. The police officer who came to the house said they probably didn't take him to sell him, but just because they thought he was cool and they would keep him as a pet. I just can't stand thinking of some little a**hole thief with my Adam. What are the chances that he will be well-taken-care-of? I've had Adam for 12 years, raised him from a little worm. I just really feel bad. Why are people so mean?

On the bright side, all four cats were home and ok, despite the fact that the back door was still wedged open. I was extremely relieved that they were all there and very proud of them for not going outside.

Anyway, getting robbed sucks. It's happened to me before and I got over it pretty quickly. But why steal Adam?

Omg! That made me cry.
I have a corn snake, that I've had for 5 years. Also have raised her from a little worm size. I couldn't imagine someone taking her!

Do the cops have any suspects/leads?

I hope Adam is returned to you.

Sorry , its good the cats are o/k ...sliding doors are easily secured against being lifted of there tracks . There are several ways to do it , depends on there design . It might pay to look into it .

What is it with people breaking in and stealing pets lately?

I'm so sorry to hear this, I can't imagine anyone stealing any of my fur/scale babies. I hope you manage to get him back, maybe you can put of signs pleading with the robbers? I'd be willing to pay a ransom, etc. if Igs were stolen.

Oh my GOSH I just saw this!! I am so very sorry!

We had a cat stolen once (saw the people take him in their car!) and I was always far more upset about that than anything materiel...

My ex used to work for animal control, he said chances are that whoever took him WILL take good care of him though, people who are interested enough in snakes to touch-hold-keep (steal!!) them are actually usually interested in their care and well-being as well. Which doesn't help YOU much. Ugh. I'm sorry.

Can you put up signs...a reward...anything?

Well, the cop stayed for quite a while and took lots of pictures and dusted for fingerprints (he said he got a few good ones), so I guess there's some hope, but I'm not counting on them catching the guys. This type of crime is unfortunately very common in Tucson.

That is encouraging though. That's what I'd like to believe...

Maybe I will, but somehow I doubt the thieves live in my neighborhood or will care...

No, the theives won't care about a reward, but maybe...maybe someone saw something, maybe someone told someone something... maybe someone is showing off their cool new pet... it doesn't hurt to try. How about flyers or notices up at pet stores? Maybe you know someone who works at one? Anything is worth a try.

Flyers at pet stores and grocery stores is a good idea.

Maybe the robber(s) thought they'd be doing the snake a favour and released it into the wild.

Thats not much of a favor, I really hope that didn't happen. I'm not sure why you would say that to someone who just had their animal stolen from them.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! That's just cruel.
If it was just some dumb kids, posting fliers at local communal places might really help. I hope you find him!

Maybe you could put up signs that say, "Know someone who just got an albino corn snake? call this number, he may be stolen."

ETA- it might make an interesting local news human interest story. If they put you on the air they could get leads and find the snake.

The news story is a great idea too! News stations often need "filler" and look for that sort of thing...

Is is a VEGAN corn snake? THAT would catch the media's attention... pfffft...

Wow, how blantly rude of you - and what a slap in the face to someone who just was a victim of not only theft, but kidnapping.
Her snake could not survive in the wild.

I hope you learn some manners. You sure could use them.

Read what I said: 'maybe they thought' not what I think.
I simply suggested another possible scenario, without making any comment as to whether is was a 'good' or 'bad' thing to do.
I don't see anything rude about that, and to call it kidnapping is really stretching it.
And, if an animal really can't survive in the wild it's obviously the wrong thing to release it.

I am not sure how common corn snakes as pets are but it would seem that they would need to find out info on care and feeding and then buy what ever is needed from somewhere. You could contact pet stores and see if someone has a new corn snake...... just a thought.

It's generally not polite when an animal or person is missing to suggest one of the worst things that could happen as an outcome. I'm sure Eggplant already knows that Adam might be outside, she doesn't need you to tell her.

When I lost my cat if someone had posted "Maybe someone did her a favor and fed her poison food" it would have upset me more, and served no other purpose.
