Hey,

I'm looking to get my hair dyed again, havn't dyed it for about 4 years and back then i didn't look at ingredients.

So my question is does hair dye have animal products in?? i'll probably be getting it dyed at a salon and i can ask them about their products but i would like to know if i have to look out for anything before i go.

Thanks.

You could use henna at home and do it yourself. :)

I second Jen. You can get henna in lots of different colours..... red, auburn, dark brown, even black..... it doesn't do funky colours like cherry red, plum, etc. Or blonde.

Try googling .... you might be surprised at what you find ..... how about a raspberry pink!

i am a hair stylist, and i would not recomend henna unless that is all you are EVER planning to use on your hair. if you over lap henna w/any other hair dye BAD things will happen!!! if you go to a salon you want them to use Paul Mitchell or Aveda, niether have animal products or are tested on animals.

I've not heard that about henna before, and there are some folks here at VB who've used both commercial dyes and henna. What happens to your hair?

Also note, that while most Aveda salons carry only vegan items, they do have some things with bee products in them.

I went to the salon, and they used aveda..which is great because i found out thats all the salon i go to use.

I didn't really want to do it myself, i've dyed my hair before myself and had some very wierd colour and mixes of colour..which was fine when i was in uni but now i have an actual job i though it best look decent.

thanks for the help!

a lot of times if you put hair color w/amonia (which is most color) over henna it will turn a green gray color, worst case i have seen a girls hair smoke and break almost off. just be careful and if you use henna then go to a salon make sure you tell them... ;)

Eww. I've only hennaed (is that a verb?) once, but I've been thinking about trying it again sometime. I miss my red highlights from when I was a munchking.

ok.. i quickly took this photo, because i don't really get my piccie taken very much, so excuse the crappyness of it.

My hair was blonde before and now it's this colour. i wanted it darker, and will ask for it darker when i go back, but you know how hairdressers are, they do what they want!

hope this works:

That is very cute. I think the light brown/auburn goes well with your skin tone. Darker's cool too, but I think this looks good.

Very nice. I think it looks very natural on you. As if that was always your colour.

well thank you both very much!!

I looked a bit wierd with blonde hair (my natural colour) because i have darker skin and quite dark eyebrows.. crazy! but yeah, when i was younger i had all the colours of the rainbow on my head, i think the only colour i've never tried is pink but i will one day. i liked it better dark and i think black was my favourite but my parents didn't like it so i grew it out and at one point had like half blonde half black...it was great!!
