Well, it appears that Helena has to go vegan for a while!

She is being tested for lactose intolerance after several days of horrible stomach pains, gas and scary nappies.....

I know nothing about nutrition for small vegan people....help!

Is she a baby? I'm not a nutritionist, so I don't know if my advice is valid. Small children are growing very quickly, so they need plenty of healthful fats in their diets, as well as nutrient dense foods. Avocados provide plenty of essential fatty acids and vitamins, so does flaxseed oils. Calcium is also essential to growing small people, and soy yogurt, broccoli, and fortified non-dairy milks and cereals provide calcium. Hope that helped (:

According to my Dietics classes, if your daughter is younger than two years, soy milk can hinder her growth (calcium is very important during the developmental years). I would speak with a doctor or a certified nutritionist first, but my nutrition book advises sheep or goat milk before soy milk in children under two.

I reccommend looking at Dr Spock's Baby and Childcare (8th Edition) he advocated a vegan diet for children and outlines mealplans and nutrients required for children

for your B12 question, if she's getting a lot of enriched foods and breastfeeding a supplement isn't nessessary. but if it's just the breastmilk she's getting that has any B12 then you might want to do a multi. I give my son a multi every day just in case
