Tomorrow will be my first race in my goal to run a marathon, it is only a 10k...I know I can run it, But i am very nervous since there will be competition! Anyone have any advice to help me squelch the butterflies?

"Only" a 10K?! Come, now! That is excellent, and definitely a great training race for your upcoming marathon. (Which marathon, and which 10K?)

I can't give you much help on stopping those butterflies -- I get 'em every time, no matter what -- but I do want to wish you luck. Since you posted yesterday, you're probably done by now -- I hope you'll come back and update us on the outcome!! :vebo:

Even though it's called a "race", there will likely be a lot of people walking most or all of it. Don't worry, you won't be left in the dust and you'll probably pass a lot of people. :)

My advice is not to treat it like a race, because unless you're going to run 6-minute miles, you're likely not going to win. And that's okay!! 99% of the people running it aren't going to win. Treat it like a training event! The energy and enthusiasm is guaranteed to get you excited about your marathon.

Good luck, and congratulations on making it so far! :)

ETA: oops. didn't see this was posted yesterday. :dunce:
