What is your favorite brand of vodka?
For shots or shooters, not for mixing.

Today I did a mini taste test and came up with.....

1) Finlandia (the winner, by quite a long shot)
2) Absolut
3) Grey Goose (lots of hype on the name, but no delivery....far too sharp)

I need to add Stoli and Belvadere to the test, but my ABC store didn't have any small bottles of those.

1. Grey Goose
2. Ketel One
3. Stoli or Finlandia

For mixing, the cheap stuff!

Grey Goose is so highly rated, but in my test today I just didn't get it. It was very wince-inducing. Do you like the regular or the flavored ones? I thought the (plain) Goose was much less smooth than either the (plain) Absolut or the Finlandia. When I read all the reviews that Goose won over Finlandia I was quite surprised.

I haven't tried Ketel.
I will put that on my list to get next time.....

And, yes, even Gordon's will do just fine when mixed with fruit juice!

For me, it's the total lack of aftertaste & flavoring in Grey Goose. It tastes very pure to me, and goes down smoother than any others.

I've never tried the flavored varieties straight, only in mixed drinks. Straight, I'm a little afraid they'd be cheap tasting, like a bastardization of real vodka! Which flavored brands would you recommend?

Weird thing is that, to me, Goose was less smooth and had more aftershock than Finlandia. The flavored ones seem to be perfected more by Absolut or Stoli.

There was a "Pink" vodka that I saw with caffeine and guarana in it that looked intriguing. I was scared to get it, however, because it only came in a big bottle and was expensive. I was afraid it would be nasty. Ever tried that one? It came in a very pretty bottle!

Tito's Handmade Vodka (http://titosvodka.com/) :D

(I don't drink any "hard liquors" straight; they are always mixed with something else.)

My husband said that Tito's is supposed to be the best.
It is raved about in all his beer magazines.
I'll have to order some sometime.

Belvedere for something simple, like a vodka & tonic.

Cheap stuff for anything else, like Stoli.

Level vodka is probably my favorite, I believe it is also made by Absolut. Pop it in the freezer for a bit, and it's the smoothest I've ever tasted.

"Cheap" vodka (not ridiculosly cheap though) is pretty much my drink of choice.. as I'm poor.

I seem to go through a litre bottle of Smirnoff red a fortnight!

And I know you said not for mixing.. but my drink of choice at the moment is "Absolut Apeach" with juice.
FREAKEN AMAZING!

Svedka is pretty darn good! And it isn't outrageously expensive either.

I've had potato vodka (can't recall the brand name) and it was pretty darned smooth.

I love that this thread is in the "Entertainment" section. :)

Absolut Citron.. I don't drink anything straight.

I saw blind taste test on TV a while back and Smirnoff was the winner.

I really haven't had too much vodka straight. I tend to use vodka in a cocktail or highball. I do enjoy Absolute. Or Smirnoff Rasberry. The best way to drink vodka IMHO, is in a Super Nova Vodka Soda. Club soda, Lime Slush, any kind of vodka, flavored or plain and some frozen Berries.

If I want to drink something straight, it would be a scotch, cognac or liqueur.

Here's a handy tip for you.

Buy a cheap bottle of vodka (not so cheap that it's anti-freeze!). Keep a shot to one side so you can do a taste test.

Now, put it through a drip-drip type water filter. Do this three or four times and now do the taste test.

What you're paying for with expensive voddie, apart from the name, is the numerous filterings.... cheap stuff is done less.

Let me know if you give it a go.

Another top tip.... stick a vanilla pod in a bottle of vodka and leave it a month. Also good with chillies.

I am totally going to try this.
I'm going to have a "great VODKA day" soon and I'm going to have several different ones to test (no mixers, only sugar and citrus for chasers.)

Me, my man, and all my neighbors will likely wind up sick.
But I'll keep a notebook handy and post what the results are....

I'm gonna do that tomorrow, but it won't be in the interest of science!
