Vegan hiking shoes....?

Does anyone know where I can get some, or have some recommendations? I would prefer to get some that are not too terribly expensive, but have not had any luck finding them at my normal shoe haunt-payless.

:confused: Why would they "have to be" leather? There are high-top vegetarian hikers that support one's ankles too.

There are definitely good vegan hiking shoes available. Leather is dead animal skin. Who wants to wear that when there are cruelty free shoes available?

What's wrong with Zappos? Just got 2 pair of vegan shoes in the mail from them today. Their selection is pretty good.

i bought the garmont vegan hiking boot. they were the same price as leather ones, honestly.

and they've lasted. i've had them for over 6 years i guess.

Not to hijack the thread, BUT.....

AFAIK, there is ONE place IRL where I could find vegan/veg*n shoes and that's Payless. I've tried buying shoes at Payless and ended up with the damn things cutting into me. I can NOT wear shoes that leave my feet cut up and bloody/blistery. That just won't work, imo.

Online ordering for me is out because I have mis-shaped feet and deformed toes. The last pair I bought, I searched for MONTHS to find because my feet/ankles are so bad. My shoes have to fit exactly right or I can't walk in them (it's hard to walk period, but that's another thread completely).

I was very lucky and found my new pair on sale at 25$. They usually last me 5-6 years. Sometimes longer.

4Ever: the great thing about zappos, as I said, is that there is free shipping both ways. That means you can order shoes, try them on, and if they don't fit, you can send them back for free. If you're a hard fit, there's no monetary loss to you.

I am very hesitant to order online though, for such big bucks, I want to try them on first, I've got wide feet, and sending back and forth is not great imho, and what if I order them, they fit, but I just don't like them?

I have Garmont shoes, which I recomend.One my mom bought me after I had terrible problems with other shoes and now have a bunun that needs to be removed by surgery eventually due to my crocked ankles turning my feet inwards. So I do have some special needs now. The next pair I got in a thrift store. I hiked the long trail with my Garmont shoes and I had no blisters.

Now they are not a vegan type company. They do have leather products along with their nonleather products.

I would also like to add that some people do need leather shoes due to horrenious othropedic problems. My veg friend went through loads of non leather shoes and finally had to buy specialized shoes which were only available in leather. Hopefully as demand increases, there will be more nonleather specialized shoes.

Sorry, it's summer and I'm in hiking sandals. The ones I wear do not contain leather.
