i've noticed a few recipes calling for this product. how many of you use it? it was a staple in my home growing up (hen my mom made gravies and such) i recently took a trip to california and trying to find this in the grocery store was so difficult, i had to go to 4 different places to find it.
what if at all do you use it for?
i use it on my vegan brisket strips and other bbq flavored things

I have a bottle, but I never use the stuff. I take that back - I used it once in a recipe that called for waaay too much LS and it put me off to the flavour ever since.

Where I live, it's easy to find although I think I found it stocked in a strange place (near the picnic stuff, iirc).

Would you happen to have a recipe for that vegan brisket of yours? :lick:

I have a bottle of hickory flavored and a bottle of mesquite flavored liquid smoke in the cupboard. I bought them for specific recipes. I don't really like the taste but my husband and son like the BBQ flavored things I make with it.

you betcha
you just toss seitan in a small amount of liquid smoke
put it in the oven at 350 until it absorbs that
while thats going on make a bbq sauce with
1 c ketchup
1 tsp (5 ml) chili powder
3 T Pickapeppa sauce (if youve never had it its amazing on better than cream cheese spread on crackers)
1 c water
4 T red wine vinegar
2 T brown sugar
2 tsp (10 ml) dry mustard

pour all that over the seitan, cover and bake for what seems like forever, prolly more like an hour (i usually judge by when the yummy bbq aroma fills my apt)
then you eat it
alot of it
on bread
or alone
i prefer out of the pan, standing up at the counter in my kitchen around 4 am

The only time I've used liquid smoke was when I made my own barbecue sauce. It was AWESOME!
Not bad for my first time making barbecue sauce! :D

I use it in my seitan, too! ALso my red beans and rice... People add pork to theirs, well I add liquid smoke to mine! Mmm. I also used it to make smoked tofu for my sushi rolls last night.

<3 liquid smoke.

I use it for quite a few recipes. I make a weird but really good pasta with it that has tofu and veggies. Kinda like a stir-fry but with pasta and lemon. It has a bunch of uses and tastes great with seitan, tofu, green beans etc. but it's always a tiny part of a ton of other spices :)
