I've been using Fastweb since high school. I think it's a pretty good site to apply for scholarships, and it's pretty easy to use (I've never gotten one yet though, and I've applied for 50+). It couldn't hurt to sign up for many and look at what they all offer. Fastweb is probably one of the more popular ones though.

Thanks, I have been searching on this site and it has helped a lot. I can't believe you have applied for 50 and still not recieved any! Is that because of grades or are they really picky? I hope I get at least one.

Everyone I knew in high school looking for scholarships used FastWeb/other sites I don't know and can't remember the names of, but it was mostly to no avail. No one got any of the ones they applied for. My boyfriend applied for 300+, and still nothing. I think it's a waste. I never cared for the scholarship as a competition.

Really? Is that because they had bad grades, no community service, or were bad at writting essays or something?
Why doesen't any body get any scholarships?

My dad always tells me this story about his coworker's daughter writing an essay for a scholarship she found online in the middle of the night because it was due on midnight the day she found it, and she won. That's the only time I've ever heard of anyone winning, but it's got my dad convinced that I too can get scholarships online if I try hard enough.
I got all my scholarships directly from the school (apply for everything you're eligible for), and from local organizations in the town I grew up in. There's a lot less competition for those.

It's just to bad because my community does not have many scholarships for Juniors. I know once I'm a Senior, I can get some, but I don't like to wait until the last minute. The worst part is when you find out who wins, it's always someone who raised like $1 million for cancer research or who created an organization that saves thousands of African children each year. How can anyone compete with that?
I do a lot of things for my community, but raising money is hard and it takes A LOT of work... I do plan on doing it this year, but raising $1 million??!!! Nope, it will probably be around $100.

Yea, thats the problem with National scholarships.
The best scholarship are local scholarships! Also, looking at what scholarships your choice of school offers. My entire tuition will be payed by a scholarship offered by my college.

A lot of community colleges have agreements with major state colleges and universities, where you can do the first 2 years at community and your credits will transfer directly to the college you want to go to. One college I want to go had 2/3 year plan. I could do the first 2 years at CC and finish the last 3 at the college. But for the life I can't remember the name of it, which really sucks because it would be a major contender in my choice of colleges. Good luck!

Without that scholarship I wouldn't have been going to college. Unless a miracle happens and I get another full tuition scholarship for my last two years of college, I will not be transfering. I will graduate with Associates and thats it. :P

That is what I plan to do. I am already taking classes at my community college which I will continue to do for 2 years. They have a direct transfer from that community collge to UC Davis, so it's perfect. But then I have 6-8 more years at U.C. Davis which is very expensive.:-/

I love fast web. I get info on new scholorships everyday. and they tell me when the dead lines are coming up for the ones that I want to apply for. They also tell ou what scholorships are only avaliba through one or two schools. I think it is really nice. There are so many scholorships that I am eligable for and interested in that I didn't eve knew existed.

It looks like Margaux doesn't visit here much anymore, but I go to UCD.
The cost of school is a lot but depending on how much money your parents make you will get financial aid.
My mom makes about $60,000 a year and here is what I got as far as financial aid goes this year:
$7,126 Cal Grant A (You don't have to pay this back)
$250 Edward Kraft Prize-SCH (A scholarship I got automatically for good grades)
$2,690 Work Study
Also, if you are living in the dorms I think they give you ~$1000 extra to help pay for that. It's good to note that the estimate for the costs is really high. They say for transportation you will need $1800, but if you go to UCD you will be riding a bike. :) The estimate for books is about $1500, which is also high. You will probably use some of your books for the whole year, and the cost will come out to about $900. If you are only taking 15 units, you will probably have time to work, and there are plenty of work opportunities at UCD.
You could also live in "The Co-ops" or "The Domes" which are about $400 and $200 a month I think.

Thanks RoboMonkey :)
I forget to visit once in a while.
What are the Co-ops and Domes?
From what I hear only Freshman get to live in the dorms and then you have to go find yourself and appartment.
I'm still applying for scholarships, they are just hard to get when another couple thousand students are going for it. :(

Most freshmen do live in the dorms, and then find apartments. I would recommend living in the dorms, because you will get to meet a lot of new people. I think most people that live in the co-ops or domes do it in their second year. You can read about them on daviswiki:
http://daviswiki.org/Davis_Student_Co-Op
http://daviswiki.org/The_Domes?action=show&redirect=Domes
I would recommend working over the summer if you can, you could make a few thousand dollars.
Also, don't eat at Guadalajara, their veggie burritos have chicken in the rice.

I love dorms but I don't think I would be considered a Freshmen since I would transfer after 2 years of community college.
As far as getting a job, I have been working my 2 jobs for over a year, so I have that covered.
Thanks for the veggie burrito warning, did they seriously call it a "veggie" burrito? how sad. Did you find out about it by eating one?

Yes, I think they call it a veggie burrito. I found out about that one on the daviswiki: http://daviswiki.org/Taqueria_Guadalajara A lot of people eat there because it's close to campus and tastes good. I think a lot of vegetarians eat that thinking it's vegetarian.
