View Full Version : Exercise During Fasting

My husband and I are doing a week-long juice fast. I typically go to cycling classes at the gym about 4 times a week, plus strength training. Because my body is focusing on all those yummy internal cleansing processes, would exercising be more problematic or helpful? Should I skip class 'till next week (yikes!)? I'm now on Day 2, feeling ok (a bit woozy but good), and am deciding whether I want to catch my class tomorrow morning or not.

Thanks for the advice!

Generally when someone fasts, they use that time to take it easy in all aspects of their life to give their body a break. I definitely think a cycling class during your juice fast would be too harsh. What about walking or maybe doing some light yoga?

 I agree. Something easy like the above mentioned activities. Or maybe if you are into cycling taking an easy ride around the block?

I agree with the above posts :)

It could definitely be problematic, fasting is a time of rest for your body, your heartrate slows down to name one aspect.
What I would do... let your body enjoy this vacation, once you start incorporating foods into your daily diet again, pick your usual routine back up again.

Why are you fasting?

I usually eat only 2 meals a day. I like to keep my food level light. The 6 times a day diet just doesn't seem to work for me. If you have a purpose in your diet, then that's fine. However, if you're doing it just to loose some weight, then it's not cool. A juice fast generally isn't an optimal fast. You're better off just not eating anything. You'll detox much more efficently that way.

In terms of working out during fasting. Cardio can be done first thing in the morning. Weight training requires some more nutrients in your body, unless your workouts are short and intense.

Warrior Diet is a good resource for fasting.

yerh , I agree with the take it easy posts , just listen to your body if you feel down , ease back on the exercise part or dont exercise at all . Found the best thing was to walk in parks , around nature away from people when fasting .
