so ive started regularly working out. feels great.
trouble is im a big believer in listening to my body(reason i started was had too much energy!). the last 2 days ive been exhausted for various reasons, none of them illness. i know that regularity is the key with things like cardio and also that apparently not exersising for just two innocent days alters insulin etc.,
so should i just do it regardless??
or can i listen to my tired body and mind and have a weekend without it, and just recoup. which would be wiser :book: ?

Hi!

First of all I want to say how great it is you've started working out. You're doing a great thing for your body and your long term health. Keep it up!

I usually work out monday thru friday and take the weekends off. I think that the positive effect that working out has on your metabolism keeps going even when your not exercising. So taking a few days off won't hurt you.
Yes! Listen to your body and if you need a break , take one.

Keep up the great work!

As far as I know it is recommended that you take days off between exercise days, in order that the muscles can actually relax and take the benefits from the excercise. It is on the rest days that the strengthening properly occurs...I think there is some kind of scientific explaination somewhere...

The growth is in the rest and repair not the lifting. Tear it down, rest and repair. Repeat ;)

In the past fitness people I've talked to have suggested alternating muscle groups so that you work on set one day and another set the next day and alternating between the two.

When I had regular access to a swimming pool I'd swim using only my arms on Tuesdays and Thursdays and either rollerblade or use the treadmill and stairmaster on my leg days. It seemed to work for me.

I generally rest 2-3 days/week. I've gone weeks with only one day off and I was very sore and tired. 2-3 seems to work just fine.

I tend to rest roughly 7 days every week.

I need to start exercising again.

Doesn't juggling count as some form of exercise?

Agreed...

However I try to do cario about every day, but will take breaks to keep from adjusting too much, or over training.

& i'm Definitely down with the rotating muscle groups. That's my current practice.

Done regularly in decent size doses, yes. But I juggle less than I walk these days, and I don't walk enough to call it exercising.
