One of my cats has just taken up the odd habit of licking plastic. She never use to. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Erin, I have one that likes to chew on plastic (does not eat it or even pierce it with teeth holes)... he just has a plastic bag fetish. He's been doing this for about 7 years and has not gotten sick from it. My vet did not seem very concerned about it, though he did say ingestion of plastic would/cause problems.

Animals will develop weird fetishes about kicking certain substances. I heard a vet talking about it on public radio just a couple of days ago. Sometimes it can be a sign that they're missing something in their diet, but generally it's just a fetish they develop. Apparently, if you're feeding a good quality balanced diet, it's nothing to worry about.

Okay thanks you two.
Thinking about it some more, I realize she started doing it after I switched their food. Probably has to do with that.
