I'm not the greatest fan of Whole Foods, but according to my Dad they did a good job on a Mother's Day gift basket for my Mom. I'm not familiar with some of the items in the basket, so I don't know if it's completely veg, but it's at least mostly veg. The e-mail from my Dad is below. This is something to keep in mind as a future M-Day option for your Mom. :vebo:

Hi everyone

I picked up the basket from Whole Foods and delivered it to your Mother today around 3 PM. I made up a card on the computer and included it with the basket. I used the computer and the copier to print your names. The card should have been in color, but I do not have a color printer here. Your Mother probably does not know that Whole Foods did not prepare the card.

The basket came to just under $ 81. Sorry it was so expensive. This store does not have "ready made" baskets - each is "custom made".

It was a truly lovely gift. The basket was oval, about 18 by 30 inches with a big ribbon and bow, and a big handle. The whole basket was covered in plastic film. Here are a list of the ingredients:

parrano
mimlette
pineapple, golden (the visual effect of the pineapple in the center was spectacular)
choc chip schlabach
granolas
trail mixes
fuji apples
swiss cheese and Italian crostini crackers
peaches
braeburn apples
mangos
tangrines
1 lb of strawberries
pears
grapefruit
horned mellons
blackberries
blueberries
aacados
grapes
raspberries
dark chocolate bars

Again, the price ended up so high because Whole Foods and the woman did not have any "standard" baskets for me to price out. I told her to make something nice. She called me with a $ 113 basket, after she gathered up all the ingredients. So I told her to scale it back to $ 80, which she did. I was afraid to go lower for fear that it would not be very nice.

The basket was truly lovely. Wish I had a picture to show you. It probably took the woman 1.5 hours to make, including the shopping spree with me.

That sounds amazing!!!!

I don't know how you could not be a whole foods fan.
I've been once (none in my province) and I almost couldn't leave!

I think that it's counter-productive to have the 'common man' walk into a store where everything is so expensive. I've been to other veggie-friendly supermarkets where they do a better job of 'bridging the gap' between a typical supermarket and a progressive one. For example, the Sunflower Markets expanding rapidly in the US West/Southwest. I don't know beans about the situation in Canada. :hamster:

I think Whole Foods does a great job at it's prices. Sure, a lot of what they have is pricey but I find that many of their foods are simply much cheaper than say at a typical supermarket where they are marketed heavily as "Natural" or "Organics" or "Vegetarian" and the prices are jacked up beyond belief. Take for instance Earth Balance Whipped Margarine. At my local fav typical grocer (Giant Eagle), a tub is $3.99 (!!!) but at Whole Foods it's only $2.69 for the same amount.

We usually have to go to about 3 and sometimes 4 different stores to purchase all of our groceries. Whole Foods, a local vegan-friendly co-op, and two regular grocery stores. And it's often a case of one product being significatly cheaper at one store and another product being cheaper at another store.

Anyway, on topic, I think that is a wonderful thing you and your father did for your mom. I did that once, on my own, for my dad on father's day. But I did a breakfast theme and got him special coffees, fresh-made scones and biscuts and yummy jams and fruit. Gift baskets are sooo much fun to make.
