 I'm sorry, this is such a n00b question...but do gyms allow you to try out their facilities to see if you like it? I'm getting really tired of walking for exercise and I want to try exercise machines. The thing is, I never ever did them before and I want to see if I like it before I pay big money for a gym membership.
Thanks. :)

I know that most of the 24 hour fitness places have trial memberships. Call a few of the gyms around you to see if they offer such trials.
For me the two most important aspects in choosing a gym are 1) convenience and 2) enjoyable exercise options. I've done my best at gyms when they were convenient (at work or very close to home) or had activities I enjoyed like climbing or swimming.
I hope you find a great, convenient gym that you enjoy.

most gyms, I think, will give you a free "induction" if you ask. They show you how to use each piece of equipment and sometimes weigh you and stuff. You should phone around gyms in your area and ask.
The first and only gym I ever went to (I "joined", they kept my details on file and stuff, but I never paid a recurring fee, I paid per session) even gave me a voucher for another free session too :D

Well, at the two gyms I go to you can pay for a single lesson at the time, if you want to, then you can try it out before you pay for a long time membership:)

I was able to join Gold's gym for a month before deciding if I wanted to sign on long term....which was good because I hated it!!

I think most do. If they don't I'd be very afraid of joining. Also ask people where they belong.
Also the ones I went to gave you a few free sessions with a personal trainer. She showed me how to use the machines and gave me a routine. It was easy and fun and I had never been in a gym in my life.

Well! I think what fitness activities we would be willing to try. Thats why a good first step for anyone is identifying specifically what they want to accomplish, we have a various option for that and various Gyms are there which have trial memberships.

Most gyms will give you a free trial membership for a week or two, but watch out! I've had my "free trial" at 24 hour fitness and at Pure Fitness, and they are SUPER high-pressure sales. They will ALWAYS tell you, you can have 2 weeks free, but there's a sale for _____ that ends today, so you should sign up today! Trust me, that sale may end today, but there'll be another one tomorrow! Don't fall for it! I've had a gym call me every day for a month with their new, ends today, sale, and by the time my 30 days was up, I didn't even join, I was so annoyed with them!
The one exception to the rule - the YMCA...at least my local one! They gave me a 3-time punch card and after the initial tour, they never said a word to me. I LOVED the low-pressure sales, and the gym was pretty good, too.

Good gyms will let you, yes.
Good luck and let us know if you find one you like! :hamster:
