I've been wanting to try a mineral makeup too ... most sites I look at say they don't do animal testing on their brand but haven't seen anything that says 'asolutely no animal products' or that it's 100% vegan ... anyone know if these brands are vegan?

I've been interested in trying mineral makeup too. I don't think Bare Minerals is vegan, but I'm not sure.
I've heard good things about Herbs of Grace (http://www.herbsofgrace.com/catalogR/) and Monave (http://www.monave.com/) (although I'm not sure if all of Monave's stuff is vegan).
There's also this place that I've seen advertised on veg. boards:

Check with Urban Decay also. They have a mineral makeup and I know that many of their products are vegan.

I've been making my own mineral makeup (like lipstick) for a few years but last night I read in the Ecologist Magazine that iron oxide and mica (mineral colourants) are bioaccumulative and can cause liver irritation.
It has got me worried.......it has got to be better than coal tar colourants that are used in commercial lipsticks that are known carcinagins---but I don't like the idea of bioaccumulative either.
I have had liver issues for the last year and wonder if this is not a cause or contributor to this.
It has got me worried..................

Alima! The brushes are even synthetic!

I like the idea of synthetic brushes---not only from a cruelty angle but also an allergy one. A "real" animal brush will have me in hives once it makes contact with my face. Not good.

I'm pretty sure I have roseacea (sp?) and I've had acne for half my life too ... I've heard with the pure mineral makeup that you can use it instead of concealer for blemishs or under the eyes (everyone in my fam has dark under-eye circles) so that's part of the draw for me too. And just the fact that it's less chemicals I'd be using. Right now on a daily basis I only use concealer - different type for undereyes and a different type for blemishs (zuzu - which I know is vegan) then powder (zia - which I just started using) so I'm trying to make my next purchase a good one. I don't want one of those mineral makeups that just says they are (like cover girl has one out now and states its mineral makeup and we now probably most of it is cr*p).

this is where i buy mine, a few things have beeswax but they have full ingredients lists for everything on the website and if you're not sure you can just email them. they're very helpful.
and this stuff wears so nice and light, and smells great. i used it for my outdoor wedding in Maui, and didn't sweat it off (or sweat more because of it) and it never makes me break out

I absolutely love my Bare Minerals and I would be heartbroken if they were not vegan
I am under the impression that they are 100% natural minerals
Here is a listing of ingredients I got from the container
Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide 16%
Zinc Oxide 18%
Inactive Ingredients: Bismuth Oxychloride, Mica, & Iron Oxides
May Contain: Titanium Dioxide

Monave has a ton of vegan stuff, including vegan lippies, and her powders are all vegan I believe. Also barefaced minerals has vegan lippies and her powders are as well. They are both priced good too! :)
