awww
I'm sorry, just stopping by now/ back later for a squiz at whats gone on here...
(Whatever it is, having things kick off with a mate makes it all the more bad, are you sure this person is a 'mate'/ a friend?? )

Please ~ what do you want people to say that best suits your feeling right now?

Pissed off is a good way to tell us how you're feeling for starters... Well done for that.
A phrase we all understand

Realizing that no one is perfect, including oneself, sometimes help us to feel more compassionate for others. We are all stuck with our "knowing", to fault someone else for what they know, and not take into account that we ourselves have short comings, maybe a bit unfair.

I'm sorry you had a disagreement.
You may want to allow some time for both of you to cool down before approaching the issue again.

Meat can give you colon cancer...Correct?
I'm not certain. It seems like I've heard this before, but I can't find any links to studies that show a direct correlation between meat consumption and colon cancer.
There have been some studies that show a connection between low fiber diets and an increased cancer risk, and meat is lower in fiber than vegetables and grains. Fiber helps push slower digesting foods through the colon faster, so they spend less time decomposing in the colon.

Meat also rots your gut...Correct?
I did hear a doctor say this on an Oprah show once.

http://www.oprah.com/health/yourbody/youdocs/youdocs_faqs_di_09.jhtml

Fruits are the fastest travelers on the intestinal interstate, with meats driving like an oversized load in the right lane (they can take two to three days to be excreted or even longer as it rots inside your intestine).

http://www.oprah.com/health/yourbody/youdocs/youdocs_faqs_di.jhtml

Q: On The Oprah Show, you said that meat rots in the body. ...

A: Think of every food source as a different vehicle on the highway. Everything travels at different speeds (Get out of the left lane, you good-for-nothing jelly doughnut! Oatmeal is coming through!). Transit time for protein varies (and fat is like a lot of stop signs—they make things go slower). Meat is the slowest to make its way through your body—taking four to seven days to make it to your body's off-ramp and into your bathroom's rest stop. ...

I hope this info is helpful. Just make sure you both take time to recompose yourselves before sharing this information. Otherwise it could just lead to another shouting match and that won't help anybody.

Good Luck

I'm sorry people are mean to you. A lot of people think they know what they're talking about just because they've grown up not hearing anything different. :( /hug

First, I have to say "omnis think they know everything" is a crazy generalization. SOME people do, omni or not.

On to my reply..

 I can understand why you're upset. What did this 'friend' say to you? Both of the facts[?] you posted I have heard before, but not sure if they are correct.

JoJo's post was wonderful.

I've always said it's better to be pissed off than pissed on. :p

Not sure about colon cancer, but I've seen several references about other types of cancer. For instance, I recently saw an article about how eating beef regularly increases the chance of breast cancer by 20% for pre-menopausal women, and more than that after "the change". And apparently, the more beef they eat, the greater the risk is, so even cutting down would help some people.

We're ok now, don't actually understand what happened there.
Its just i've been veggie for quite a while now, but i got into the situation where i was educated about meat and the cruel evil things that happen to animals. I know its not always true but most of it is. She doesn't believe me.
She things that she is right all the time and she knows all the facts on meat and slaughter, but she hasn't the foggiest. And whether she likes it or not when it comes to that subject i am usually right. Not to be big headed or anything, but i have learnt as i go along.

She also told me i was wrong for going vegan, and was trying to persuade one of my veggie friends to eat meat...i felt like cracking her one! Grrr...its just made me angry again!

Anyways..we are friends now...

Thanks guys

Fran xx

Make Love Not War

She sounds like a rude hard headed person. Those are the kind it is just best to leave in their ignorance and walk away. You pay too high a price in anger, and they just aren't worth you getting that upset over when you can never change them.

Yes, beef increases chances of colon cancer. American beef is so loaded with carcinogenic (cancer causing) properties such as hormones, that other countries will have nothing to do with our meat. Beef is very slow digesting, so that means this beef loaded with carcinogenic properties spends a long time in your intestines. Not good.I'll see if I can find the link for you. By the way, other meats are not exempt from this, but beef is the worst.

I just treat their omnivorism as their religion. As long as they don't try to force their "religion" on me, I'm ok with it.

honestly she does not sound much like a friend, though my dad does say a lot of similar things to me. I have learned that sometimes it is better to try not to let things get to you and try to ignore the things they say. Some people do it purposely to get a rise out of you.

Meat also rots your gut...Correct?No, unfortunately it's not correct.

But that appears to not be the point. I'm not sure what the falling out was about, or what you are pissed about, but I'm glad things are going better now. First rule in life, don't take anything personally.

You do however see the irony in you getting upset about her trying to convince you to not go vegan, while you are trying to convince her to go vegan. Perhaps if both of you would learn to worry about yourself instead of the other one, you could get along better. Second rule in life, don't make assumptions.

It's accepted by most medical authorities that meat eating (especially red meat) causes cancer, and most particularly colon cancer.

There are dozens of websites which attest to this - and I'm not talking about vegetarian websites, but medical ones.

Here's one article from the BBC website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4164091.stm

Meat is a killer. And any animal protein taken in excess (and eating meat every day is most DEFINITELY an excess) is dangerous for one's heatlh. Even an idiot should realise that if they have a brain, eyes to read articles, and ears to listen. As well as listening to their bodies...

I read your link. No where does it say eating meat causes cancer. Correlation does not equate to causation.

Really? Then why doesn't the link you provided say to not eat any red meat? If it is such a no-brainer and all...

(Dear readers, this is what happens when people who don't understand research try to interpet the results.)

Tame!!!!!!! Lovely to see you again. Haven't talked to you for ages and I thought you were ignoring me or something. Made me feel real depressed.

It's great to know that you're still chatting with your old friend. :)

Read 'em. Can't see where "red meat causes cancer." I did read where diets with too much red meat can have higher rates of certain diseases, but that is certainly different than Diana's false claim of causation.
