In Boston, the majority of the crew will be staying at the Fenway hostel.

Rates are around $40 /night for a 3 person room and $100 for a private room

I'm thoroughly excited about the trip!! I'm meeting up with a bunch of other online weirdos in SF the weekend before, then hopping over to BeanTown to eat some beans!!

I do know that on the surface, Boston isn't exactly veggie friendly, but it does have at least a few veggie restaurants, AND Gaya and Zoebird live there!!

We've tried to find affordable accomodations near downtown, but we haven't had a ton of luck. We could surely use some help.... :D

Hmm, maybe. :) I've only been to Boston once, and didn't really get to see or do anything (other than a Red Sox game).

Boston's pretty expensive. We could use Hotwire, or Priceline to save on hotel costs? 3 star hotels are under $100 with those sites (versus over $200 on expedia)
Looks like the Red Sox are playing away that weekend, so that sucks.

yeah, the only places I could find under $100 were of the Days Inn/Super 8 variety and they were well outside of Downtown on the Freeways.... Of course there's gonna be a good deal of doubling up, and I for one don't mind crashing on the floor....

We're also gonna need an activities committee to arrange some events/activities for the group... walking the freedom trail, going to clubs etc... Not saying we all have to do the same things, but an itinerary of available excursions and gatherings might be cool...

I've been thinking WAY too much about this trip....

Woohooo! I'm super-excited about this, too!

I dislike setting a "we're going to be here at this time and see that right after" itinerary for a big group before we get there. Checking out the options is great, but on vacations I try to leave the options open for whatever I and my vacation-mates feel like doing that day.

Um, yeah... Boston wasn't super veg. friendly when I was there in the 90's though I assume it's better now.

I think a loose schedule or rough outline of options would be helpful so we don't spend the whole time saying "What do you want to do?" "I don't care, what do you want to do?" (Been there, done that). But no one HAS to follow an itinerary if they don't want...

PLUS, if we at least planned where we'd eat for certain meals, like "Do whatever, but let's all meet for lunch at Bla-Bla-Bla at 1:00 today" would help, so people don't wander off and and find some great restaurant and then everyone else wants to eat there for supper so you get a lot of repeating.

If Gaya and zoebird live in Boston, maybe we should ask them for restaurant options?

I'm so excited about this, you all better show up!

In regard to veg*an restaurants in and around Boston, this is what I turned up after just a few minutes of searching on the Net:

^^^^ I second the motion for scallywaggle's for lunch one day!!!!!

Also... I think a whole foods trip needs to be arranged for those of us who don't have the pleasure of one in our city.

Boston is WAY veg friendly.

btw...this is where I think we (IS and I) are planning to stay:
http://www.bostonhostel.org/fenway.shtml

It's central, has a kitchen, and is pretty cheap, especially if you book using this site:

Not completely sure I will be able to go, but all of us -are- planning on staying in the same hotel/hostel, right?

I do like the prices for that place, IAJ.

I'm going.

Hostels creep me out though, sorry. The boy and I will be staying in a hotel.

Fenway sounds good to me. I'm A-OK with hostels, especially if they have lockers with locks for people's stuff.

There are private rooms for couples (or any 2 people), and we can request rooms to be VB only as well.

I'm open to other places too.

Hey! how cool you guys are planning the meet in Boston. There's a neat folk pub (club passim) that has a vegetarian restaurant (veggie planet) in harvard sq in cambridge. Awesome food.
http://www.veggieplanet.net/veggieplanet.htm

I don't venture out of cambridge into boston all to often but i know there are veg options.

Also, I don't know how many of you have seen blue man group but we've had showings here for years at the charles therater play house and if you volunteer to usher the show you get to attend for free. Ushering is super easy.

I'm open to other places too.

This is likely to be the only vacation I'll get this summer, and so either I'll stay in a hotel somewhere and pay a little more, or stay at my friend's house outside of Boston for free.
