I am as miserable as sin right now and my CD collection is offering me no solace at all. (There's only so much Death Metal and Jeff Buckley that a love sick depressed girl can take!).

So, suggestions please. I really need cheering up, but saccharin pop doesn't do it for me.

I think I need "I will survive" sentiment stuff but with double pedal drumming and lots of guitars.

Help....

I'll try my best, but I think the furthest I get from pop is pop-punk
In the Middle - Jimmy Eat World
is my favourite "uplifting" song right now.
I'll get back to you later if I can think of anything else. *mental block*

Oldie but goodie:
I Am Woman

(Helen Reddy and Ray Burton)
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

Oh, yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh, yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to
I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong

I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman

I Will Survive"

At first I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
And I grew strong
And I learned how to get along
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed that stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
Did you think I'd crumble
Did you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
Oh as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive (hey-hey)

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
But now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
and now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye
Did you think I'd crumble
Did you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
Oh as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

You guys are doing a great job of cheering me up!!
I dunno what the neighbours think of my singing though!!!
:pibo:

Ooo... I wish we could have a VB Karaoke thingy...

I am so sad, but I honestly think it would be amazingly fun to sing "I will survive" over the web with Life2k, VA, Iso etc...:p :nana:

I thought of a few uplifting songs I love but they didn't have to do with getting over someone. Let me try again, but please don't go buying anything and maybe wasting your money until you've heard something a few times....

"My Give-a-damn's Busted"- Jo Dee Massena (okay- it's country. But it's got the attitude you might be in the mood for)

"Kiss This", by Aaron Tippin (this guy is very pro-hunting, and I don't care for his music, but I think you'll like this song)

"Red Rubber Ball"- the Cyrkle (an oldie dating from the 60's)

"I Hate Myself For Loving You"- Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Sing, sing a song

Sing out loud

Sing out strong

Sing of good things not bad

Sing of happy not sad

(*) sing, sing a song

Make it simple to last

Your whole life long

Don’t worry that it’s not

Good enough for anyone

Else to hear

Just sing, sing a song

La la la la la

La la la la la la...

Sing, sing a song

Let the world sing along

Sing of love there could be

Sing for you and for me

I Hope You Dance

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

(Everything I Do) I Do It For You (Faith Hill & Brandy)
(Bryan Adams/Michael Kamen/R.J. Lange)

Look into my eyes
You will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart
Search your soul
And when you find me there, you'll search no more

Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do
I do it, do it for you

Look into your heart
You will find
There's nothing there to hide
Take me as I am
Take my life
I would give it all
I would sacrifice

Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it
There's nothin' I want more
Oh, ya know it's true
Everything I do
I do it for you

There's no love
Like your love
And no other
Could give me more love

There's nowhere
Unless you're there
All the time
All the way

You can’t tell me it's not worth fightin' for
You can’t tell me there's nothin' I want more
Oh, I would die for you
I'd lie for you
I’d walk the wire for you
Ya I'd die for you

You know it's true
Everything I do
I do it for you.

I've been ruminating on this topic for years in my various hosted vegetarian music lists at http://Groups.Yahoo.com.

I think we need a vegetarian Manhattan Project to develop these cultural resources in vegetarian advocacy music and vegetarian values celebration music.

Of course, I blog on these and other topics, also.

I've even explored getting funding (private grants, foundations controlled by vegetarians, even donating my own money) to motivate composers, lyricists, poets, and songwriters to develop the sources of musical resources we vegetarians and vegans need to celebrate during our occasional or regular get-togethers the values we DO share, amidst all the differences that divide us - or at least widen gulfs between us.
