How do you all figure out how many calories are burned while you are walking/jogging etc? I walk around the park usually 5-7 times which equals out to be 2.2 - 3.08 miles a day. I would like to be able to figure the correct amount of calories that is being burned. Also how can I figure out how fast I am walking? I try to walk as fast as I can but I have short legs and the dont move as quickly as someone with longer legs lol any suggestions?

www.mapmyrun.com (http://www.mapmyrun.com) will let you figure out distances via google maps. Now, you can map your walk and see how many miles it is. Then, calculate how long it takes you to walk it. That will tell you how many mph you walk.

If you walk at about 4 mph (which is a very brisk pace), you'll probably burn about 75 calories per mile (depending on your size). 3.5 mph will burn about 60 calories per mile.

Thanks for that link! I just found out I ran 3.5 miles this morning. Not bad for a couch potato.

If you have some cash, try a heart rate monitor. Look for the ones that have a calorie counter. These are great to have if you are a runner for more than one reason.

You can get a pedometer for $15 or less. It will tell you how many steps you've taken, and will calculate your mileage. The thing is that you would have to put in the length of your "pace," but the trick of this is (at least for me) my pace is larger when I'm rested and shorter once I'm fatigued. So I start off with a pace = 2.5 feet, but then it goes down to 2 feet after I've walked awhile. You could just use a wrist watch to measure the time in which you've covered a particular distance.

I believe that Kenneth Cooper has some charts that tell you how many calories burned per aerobic "points" that you've earned, and the time and distance numbers will allow you to compute aerobic points.

ETA: Cooper says you burn about 20 calories per aerobic "point." See his charts here:

Glad you guys like it! :) I use it when I want to run X miles and don't know exactly where to run. It works quite well. :)
