I've lost 8 pounds since changing my diet to veg*n. I don't exercise at all right now. I have 2 bulging disks in my lower back and they are very easily aggregated. I used to love to walk and ride my bike for exercise, but walking is totally out of the question. Honestly, I can usually make it to the end of the day and then have to sit down because my lower back hurts.
What other kinds of exercised could I do. I would really like to ton up a bit, especially my tummy.
TIA for any advice.

Hi!
I also have two bulging disks in my lower back. About two years ago I had a cortisone shot in my back which helped alot and I also started exercising regularly. I started with just walking on the tredmill, and then worked my way up to running and using the elyptical trainer. If you have a gym close by you could try the elyptical trainer. It is close to no impact so it may not aggrivate your back like walking does. Just take it slow and be patient. It took me a year to lose the 30 lbs I need to lose and it really helped my back feel better. Just be consistant with the exercise and stick with it. I hope you feel better soon!

Isn't there a local health centre near you? You could visit a physiotherapist for exercises.

Hi.
I'm sorry to say we belong in the same bulging disc club. In therapy they had me warm up on a treadmill, then squats on a total gym, a few minutes with free weights, then time on an elliptical. For home, I picked up a copy of Back Rx, which features a 15 minute yoga & pilates-based program. So far it's been slow going, but I'm getting used to it.
Please talk to your doc or therapist and see what they recommend, too. My first doc wanted to rush me into surgery and blew of my questions/concerns. Needless to say, he's history and I'm doing better now than I was at any time under his care.
Healing vibes to all.

It seems this is a pretty common thing. I too have a herniated disk which is also degenerated. I would say stay away from the eliptahell... sorry, eliptical. I did therapy and have had two cortizone shots. I love the shots. They're scary but so worth it.
My physical therapist had me do stretches, and light weight lifting. I bought a stability ball and love that for home exercise. It supports my back and allows me to "work out" without killing my back. Swimming is also wonderful for back pain. Whatever you choose to do, start slow and keep it up!
Hope everyone feels better!
