Ok, I'm at a loss what to do. I've been vegetarian for so many years and I am seriously considering taking a prenatal with gelatin, which I don't want to do. Here is the situation.

I posted a while back about prenatals, people recommended Rainbow Light but I don't like them because their prenatal contains Vitamin A Palmitate, and I don't want to get too much of that during pregnancy due to risk of defects. No good prenatal should have vitamin A in that form, it should be in Beta Carotene.

So I went with SOLGAR vitamins, which are 4 a day, but thats fine - except I eat a very healthy diet and get a lot of dietary calcium, and the prenatal also contains a TON of calcium, and I was afraid from the beginning of developing kidney stones ( I know two women who got them during PG) and sure enough, I just got rid of some and it was NOT a fun experience.

So I'm at a LOSS!!! Right now I'm just taking folic acid and Vegan DHA supplements.... nothing else! I think an iron supplement is in order, but I'd really just rather take something that says "prenatal" on the label, does that sound insane??? Someone help me, I have been to so many vitamin stores and health food stores and can't find anything that doesn't have a ton of calcium AND no gelatin AND no vitamin A palmitate!!! Thanks!!!

seriously, it's ok to not take prenatal vitamins.

go and get an iron skillet, and that should give you enough of iron support for your needs (and then some).

agreed. and, in fact, multi vitamins are not necessarily that great anyway (just due to lack of absorption). it is better, i think, to individually take what you think you need (like the folate and omega 3s).

I did a google search and came up with this one:
http://www.bayho.com/p/892061.html
it is not vegan, but it is vegetarian, and the vitamin A comes from beta-carotene.

And this one:
http://www.devanutrition.com/vegan_prenatal_multivitamin.html
Also beta-carotene, and seemingly vegan.

This was just a quick search cause I'm at work, but they are out there! Don't despair!

I think that I agree with Zoebird and catswym...

I believe that a prenatal vitamin is a good way to make sure all of your bases are covered. But if you are sure of what you are getting enough of and what you aren't, diet-wise, then you can take individually what you need.
