Heres one that doesn't really involve animals, I just hate starbucks and its dumb social standards, I want a good reason (and don't say the coffee) to actually go to place full of psuedo(?) intelligent people w/ those dumb glasses, and edgar allen poe books.

I don't frequent Starbucks that often though have never understood the hatred that a lot of folks seem to have for the place. They are frequently critisized for being overly expensive though have consistently been rated as one of the best companies to work for in the US, providing full benefits and 401K to nearly every employee. Honestly, I wish that more companies had "dumb social standards" like they do

Any reason starbucks is any worse than any other coorperate store?

"full of psuedo(?) intelligent people w/ those dumb glasses, and edgar allen poe books."

"dumb glasses"? I guess, you are refering to, what I hear called "emo glasses"?
Open your eyes and stop being so damn judgemental, k? I've been in many starbucks, and there's a variety of people that go in there. None of which had Edgar Allen Poe books on them. And so what if they did? Wow, this is the most pointless insulting thread..

an article from oxfam

Tell Starbucks to Give Ethiopian Farmers Their Fair Share
Each year, coffee companies make billions of dollars. Starbucks alone earned almost $5.8 billion in net revenues during the first three quarters of 2006.

With as many as 15 million Ethiopians dependent on coffee, Ethiopia has decided to get its farmers more of what they deserve. The country's government has asked Starbucks to sign a licensing agreement that will allow Ethiopia to control the names of its coffees. That way, Ethiopia can help determine an export price that makes sure farmers see a larger share of the profits enabling them to feed their children, send them to school and get them better healthcare.

Woo! I have those "stupid glasses"! (Except they're rimmed with blue on the inside, along with the black exterior frames.)

And though I hate Starbucks, many different people go there. Not many people that you described go there, actually. For example, I have those "stupid glasses" and I read Edgar Allen Poe. Yet where do I go when I want a delicious cup of fancy coffee that you have to order in French? No where. Coffee gives me the jitters.

You can't label someone by the coffee shop they go to.

I have those stupid glasses, too.

If you're going to hate places "full of psuedo(?) intelligent people w/ those dumb glasses, and edgar allen poe books" you should probably start with the library. Down with the library! And, independent bookstores. Down with those too! And independent coffee shops in liberal college towns - those are the WORST!! OMG! Burn them all!!!!!!!1111

Why trouble with targeting specific shops, just burn all the liberal college towns. They're full of damn hippies anyway.

If you're insecure enough that going into a coffee shop of "pseudo-intelligent" people makes you uncomfortable, maybe you should just stay in your house all day.

Wow, when did starbucks start serving coffee? I thought it was just this brown bitter crap where they had the water temperature far too hot and ended up burning the coffee. 94 degrees celcius!!! No hotter!!

And I'm going in the next couple of weeks to get some glasses. Maybe I'll have to get some dumb ones.

I also have those dumb glasses, although mine also have some white and lime green on the rims. I also like starbucks soy lattes and I'm not ashamed to say it!!

When starbucks first opened, I refused to patronise them in my rebellious teenage fashion. Then I grew up.

Ah, it's just a coffee shop. Yet I do find it way over priced, and the coffee at dunkin doughnuts is way better. :) Oh, and I have those glasses too in brown, though I usually wear contacts.

I don't really have an ethical issue with them, but I don't understand why so many people go there for coffee when you can get it so much better elsewhere, in Australia at least.

I have two sorts of stupid glasses, the rectangular ones (with rose tinted glass, I've always wanted to look through the world with "rose-tinted glasses") and some funky cat's eye ones, too. I like Edgar Allen Poe too.

Can't stand Starbucks though, the atmosphere sucks and the coffee is not much better. The service is bad, too, but then I'm fussy with my coffee shop service. I like to be served properly, at the table, it's half of why I go to a coffee shop.

I don't really like starbucks because their 'fair trade' policies are kinda iffy and their coffee sucks and is overpriced. But on the other hand they have a vegan falafel sandwich, and soymilk, and their drinks are alright as long as you have a ton of syrup in them so you can't taste the awful coffee. I go there sometimes and I don't understand the extreme hatred towards them, unless it's by people really upset with their 'fair trade' policies rather than the atmosphere in there. I've never seen the kind of people mentioned in the OP in a starbucks.

Well I know here all the little emoey-kids who read nothing but poe, and cather in the rye all gather up in a starbucks and they all have black rectangle glasses and black clothes and black this and black that, and its become like the new "cool" thing to go to starbucks, like everyone is just following the fads.
