1. Get milk

A new study sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute found that, among people who didn't eat a lot of saturated fat, those who consumed more than three daily servings of milk, yogurt, or cheese had systolic blood pressure (the top number) almost four points lower than those who ate only half a serving daily. High blood pressure can damage your arteries, increasing your risk for -- heart attacks and stroke. Researchers say low-fat dairy is the smart choice, because it's lower in saturated fat. And once again, sing the new VB refrain, "It's the nutrients, not the food!!!"

America has high per-capita consumption of dairy and a high heart attack rate. In general, countries with low dairy consumption have a low heart attack rate. Vegans who consume no dairy have a healthy heart profile compared to the rest of the population - and they tend to consume low levels of saturated fats.

Questions about the study:

- Four points is not very much
- What was the other group eating?
- What about those who were eating moderated amounts of saturated fat (typical American diet)? Did the dairy have any / positive / negative affect? Was difference in staurated fat intake a bigger factor - that's what many studies show.
- Was there a no-dairy control group?
- Who funded the study? Did any researchers have ties to the dairy industry? (This is common.)

Not that health is my main reason for refusing to eat dairy.
